3 months! 2 rosebuds! 1 ginormous photo dump!

The little rosebuds are a 4th of a year old! Halfway to their half-a-year mark! Holy crapola!

To demonstrate how much they’ve grown (ha!), they were much more cooperative during their photoshoot this month. Even before we changed Everly’s diaper of doom. Impressive.

Without further ado… here be the photos:

Everly is spacing out. Chloe is all “3 months? Yeah, so?”

Everly doesn’t think 3 months is much of a big deal either.

“No really, we’re sick of these photoshoots”

“How’s this for a cute photo, mom?”

“This is such crap… Another background? We thought we were done…”

“What? We have to do this junk every MONTH?!”

“Watch this, I’ll give them my fakest smile ever…”

“Seriously? A turtle?”

“Can I at least take this fuzzy thing off my head?”

“Ok, I think we’re done here…”

Keepin’ it real, Rosebud style.

“Happy” 2 months, dweebs.

This photo could NOT be more perfect. It tells the story of the girls’ past month better than I could ever explain in a hundred blog posts.

Yes, this past month has been pretty damn brutal here in the Rose house. As I wrote in my previous post, the girls were plagued with tummy troubles, filling the house with blood-curdling wails and nosehair-curling(??) farts. It was a challenging month, to say the least.

With that said, we shouldn’t have been surprised when the girls refused to cooperate for their monthly photo session. Nevertheless, we dressed them in Halloween-themed onesies, gathered the needed letter magnets and hoped for the best.

This, friends, is “the best”:

Everly was pretty pissed off.

Chloe was too.

Everly actually wasn’t *too* bad…

…but Chloe was determined to be a big turd.

We tried *everything* to calm her down. (Can you believe putting a binky on her head DIDN’T help??)

Everly took it upon herself to wrap things up: “Ok mom, we’ve had enough… She is NOT gonna cooperate. Let’s call it a day.”

…and that’s why you should always keep your batteries charged.

Everly & Chloe are ONE MONTH old today!!!

Crazy.

One month in… aaaand already I feel like a bad mom.

Why? Because my camera battery died.

When? Right after I took their first “one month” photo. Yep. I only got one shot before it crapped out. A practice one, at that.

So the picture below, of my little one’s (ones’s?) big milestone, was not taken by me. For SHAME! :( Uh… I did edit it though… That’s… something.

One month, as captured by Mike.

Bullets. They’re not pretty, but they get the job done.

Mike’s feet at Letchworth State Park a couple years ago.

Ok, here’s the dealio — I feel like blogging, but I don’t really feel like thinking, know what I mean?

The compromise? A nice little bullet-ed list of random thoughts/events/etc… Brilliant!

Here goes…

  • Tomorrow I would have been 38 weeks pregnant. It also would have been the date of my scheduled c-section. Crazy. I truly cannot imagine still being pregnant at this point. Sooo happy that they’re already here!
  • Mike and I FINALLY got out of the house together on Friday evening. It was the first time I’d been “out” since being put on bed rest at 28 weeks (mid-June!). We went to Pizza Plant, where I pigged out on veggie chili & then was deeply saddened by the fact that they were out of vegan cheesecake (which Mike was letting me get for once — argh!!). We also went to Target, Babies-R-Us (of course) & the Dollar Tree. We were home by 9 to feed the girls and in bed by 10. Party animals, we are.
  • I can’t stop daydreaming about autumn. It’s always been my absolute favorite season & I get goosebumps just thinking about its awesomeness. Falling leaves, pumpkin stands, fresh apples/apple cider, crisp autumn air, snuggly hoodies/sweaters… Ahhhhhh! Can’t wait!
  • Mondays & Tuesdays are my “guilty pleasure” tv nights. Actually, they’re my only tv nights. I have zero interest in any singing/dancing-themed shows (when will they stop!?!), but gimme anything with Chef Ramsay and/or the distribution of plastic roses and I’m hooked! With that said, don’t even try to talk to me when Hell’s Kitchen, Masterchef or Bachelor Pad are on. F’real.
  • We still can’t quite tell the twins apart. Is that bad? Our simplest solution so far has been to dress Chloe in only pink, and dress Everly in everything else. Get it? Everly, ever-ything else? Shut up, it works. ;)

Everly looks just like Chloe…

…Chloe looks just like Everly.

A lot can happen in 1 minute & 36 seconds.

Here it is! The time lapse project that Mike & I started at 17 weeks is now complete!

It could have been longer, but frankly, being pregnant made me lazy. Very lazy.

Some days, just getting me to drag my bloated booty upstairs to the nursery was like pulling teeth. Not to mention the fact that I couldn’t be bothered to put on makeup most of the time and was paranoid that I would look hideous. Oh, and then there was the whole “stuck on bedrest from 28 weeks” thing, resulting in a shorter than intended video.

Thankfully, despite all the setbacks, we got it done and it turned out pretty darn (darn? yeah, I’m a mom now) well.

I’m soooo glad we did this! :)

They’re heeeeere!!

twinsJust a quick post to say that the rosebuds have arrived!

They were born on Friday, August 3rd (at 34 weeks & 3 days) via c-section, due to my increasingly high blood pressure.

Baby A (Everly Autumn Rose) was born at 2:42am, weighing 4lb 9oz.

Baby B (Chloe Winter Rose) was born at 2:43am, weighing 4lb 10oz.

They both spent about 3 days in the NICU for minor issues and were able to come home with us yesterday afternoon.

I’ll write up a proper birth post at some point. — As I’ve been told, babies are big time-hogs! :)

Bedrest, what’s that? Baby shower #2 recap.

Yay! I successfully made it through baby shower #2 yesterday! It was at my mother-in-law’s & I was worried about the whole bedrest thing, but she had a comfy outdoor recliner for me to sit in & I got to relax in the shade the whole time. Nice!

Since our rosebuds are her first (biological) grandchildren, my MIL is super excited about their arrival & went all-out for the shower. She made a huge “diaper cake” that she carefully decorated with tons of cute baby essentials, a big ol’ bouquet of “baby bootie” roses, tea-themed favors, homemade cookie flower pot favors, etc… She also made lots of food — including a super yummy vegan-friendly warm pasta salad & even a little heart-shaped vegan cake just for me! It was her first time baking anything vegan & she was nervous about how it would turn out, but it was delicious!

I got so many gifts from people that I hardly know (or have never even met). I felt kind of awkward as I opened the cards & had to give them to my MIL to find out who they were from. I was amazed by the generosity of everyone there… We even got 2 beautiful handmade quilts from my MIL’s husband’s mother. Not to sound all mushy, but I’m so lucky to have married into such a nice family. These babies are already so loved!

Mike took some photos with my dslr, but not many came out… Too blurry. I tried to fiddle with the settings & take more today, but didn’t have much luck. Anywhoooo… here’s a few that did come out:

2 rosebuds on AND in my belly!

About a dozen or so of our family & friends came over yesterday to shower us with gifts for the little rosebuds. I was amazed by the outpouring of generosity & how much stuff we ended up getting. These girls are going to have more clothes than I do! Jealous!

I’m not one for big parties or being the center of attention (don’t look at meee!), so we kept things pretty simple & low-key.

The food: My mom & sister ordered sandwich platters from Subway, made a cute “watermelon bassinet” (photo below), threw together a huge garden salad, and picked up a nice assortment of fancy cookies from a local bakery. My niece made pretty cupcakes with pink icing & I made my infamous vegan chocolate chip cookies that everyone loved (they were shocked to learn that they were vegan).

The decorations: My niece and her friend did most of the decorating. Again, we kept it simple: Pink & white balloons, crepe paper, and a couple banners. All of the favors were also put together by my talented niece. She’s got skillz, yo!

The games: I didn’t really want to do many games, as most people tend to cringe at the thought of having to participate in them. So we just did two: “Guess how many cotton balls in the baby bottle” and baby-themed Bingo. Pretty painless. Oh, and we also did a diaper raffle. Yay diapers!

The gifts: Holy crap. So many! Again, I was amazed by how much stuff we got: Pack N’ Play, double stroller, a crib, 2 Rock N’ Plays, 2 high chairs, swing, play mat, sheets, crib pads, diapers, TONS of cute outfits, etc, etc. We can’t thank everyone enough!

Damn you, Google!

Uhhhh…

I just found out that “2 Little Rosebuds” is a Gospel Bluegrass song by some guy named Red Ellis.

I’m a little weirded out…

2 Little Rosebuds

Why “2 little rosebuds”…?

My 2 little rosebudsTomorrow I will be 15 weeks pregnant with not one, but two little rosebuds. Yep, that’s them in the photo over there, hanging out in my uterus, listening to the Jerry Springer show. (Perhaps I should start choosing more child-friendly background noise?)

I refer to them as “rosebuds” not because it’s cutesy & sounds better than “fetuses” (ew!), but because my last name is “Rose”. Sooo… little baby Roses = rosebuds. Alright, fine, it’s a little cutesy. Onward…

My husband & I only planned on having one baby. Total. EVER. So it was quite a shock when we went for our first ultrasound at 9 weeks & got the news. What made it even more surreal was the way the u/s technician told us. “Okay, so there’s one baby… and there’s another…” Um, say what?! She said it so nonchalantly, as if having twins was the norm. Like we were expecting it. I didn’t even know what to say. All I could manage to blurt out was “But we only wanted ONE!!!”.

I’ve never been much of a “baby person”, or a kid person in general. I’ve never even changed a diaper. If someone would ask me if I’d like to hold their baby, I would awkwardly decline. So it was no surprise that my family was shocked at the news that I was having 2-for-1 babies. Don’t get me wrong, they’re all happy for us, but they just can’t picture me as a momma. A double momma. To be honest, I feel the same. Now that the shock has worn off, I’m definitely excited about my future mommy-ness, but I’m also terrified at the same time.

Will I be a good mom? Will I go crazy? Will I curse our crazy good fertility? I guess only time will tell. One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be quite an adventure. Get the popcorn ready…
