Over the past few weeks, our house has been taken over by an extremely foul odor. An odor so vile, it puts skunks to shame.
The source of this wicked stench? Baby farts.
Yep, our sweet little girls have been plagued with the worst gas I’ve ever had the displeasure of inhaling. This is saying a lot, being that I come from a very, um, noxious family. Plus, there’s 2 of them, so we get double the stinkies. Lucky us.
Of course, with all of this gas comes tummy aches. Bad tummy aches. Our poor girls are constantly tensing up, clenching their little fists, and wailing like they’ve just emerged from the womb. A womb lined with razor blades. This leads to inconsolable crying and fussiness for hours at a time. And parents driven to wit’s end, drowning in a sea of farts, heading for a nervous breakdown. (Who wants to come over for a fun night at the Rose’s?)
We’ve been trying everything possible to ease their pain: Multiple attempts at burping in various positions, rubbing their backs/tummies, gas relief drops, begging them to stop crying, etc… Yesterday we went out and bought “Gripe Water”, but so far we’ve had mixed results. We have an appointment next Friday for their 2 month checkup (2 months already!!?), so hopefully they’ll let us try a different formula. That’s pretty much the only other thing we haven’t tried, but they’re on special preemie stuff so we can’t switch until we get a green light from their doctor.
One of the most frustrating things about GasFest 2012 (aside from the obvious) is the way the girls seem to turn off the fussiness as soon as one of their grandmas come over. Their fists unclench, their bellies deflate, and the wailing ceases. Just like that, they’re cured. Apparently grandmas are like giant burps, relieving the girls the moment they step foot in the house.
So, being that the girls are on their best behavior for them, the grandmas (and anyone else who joins them on their visits) think we’re nuts when we share the maddening events of GasFest 2012. “Oh, what good little babies”, they say. “Such perfect angels”… Yeeeeeah…
