June 2017 DoodleBug Busy Bags review time!

If you’re new to them, DoodleBug Busy Bags is a fun subscription for little ones from Kidable Adventures (the company behind Little Thinker Box). Bags are aimed at children ages 3 through 9 and contain all of the materials needed to complete 4 to 8 fun crafts. Each bag will focus on a different theme, often relating to upcoming holidays or seasons.

Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Monthly subscriptions are $15.99 and include free shipping.

Let’s see what’s in the June 2017 DoodleBug Busy Bag!

Doodlebug Busy Bag

Doodlebug Busy Bag review

As always, all of the crafts were shipped in a padded envelope and sealed in a ziplock bag.

June 2017 Doodlebug Busy Bag review

All of the crafts were listed on info sheet, along with photos and tips on how to complete each one. — June’s theme was “Father’s Day & July 4th” and included an assortment of fun “dad” and patriotic themed projects.

popcorn magnet craft

Popcorn Father’s Day Magnet Craft Kit

A simple popcorn-themed magnet craft that involved adhering the self-adhesive foam pieces to the appropriate places as shown in the instructions.

Putting each kernel in place.

So cute! 😀

father's day mosaic craft

Dad Glitter Foam Mosaic Sign Craft Kit

My daughter LOVES these mosaic kits, which is great — but I personally can’t stand all that glitter. It gets everywhere. I realize that with two preschoolers I should probably get used to having glitter dotted throughout the house, but nope… Ha. Glitter & I will never be friends.

The good thing about these mosaics is that it takes a LONG time to complete them, meaning it’s great for keeping kids occupied. 😉

All done!

father's day ornament craft

Big Hand Father’s Day Ornament Craft Kit

Another easy craft that requires your child to simply adhere the self-adhesive foam pieces to one another to create the ornament as shown in the instructions.

Finishing up…

The completed ornament.

flag ornament craft

Craft Stick American Flag Craft Kit

This project included foam pieces as well, but also added some colored wooden craft sticks into the mix.

She was most excited about sticking on the little white stars. 🙂

The girls have already hung this up on one of our cabinet doors. 🙂

Patriotic Butterfly Glitter Mosaic Craft Kit

Another glitter mosaic. Needless to say, my kiddo was a lot more excited to see this than I was. 😉

After finishing the Father’s Day version, my mosaic lover was kinda burned out once it came time for the patriotic butterfly one.

I’ll give her a B for effort anyway.

patriotic necklace craft

Red/White/Blue Star Pony Bead Necklace Craft Kit

The girls were both really excited about this one… They always love the jewelry crafts and this one had way more beads than past kits. Oh, and star-shaped ones too — those were a huge hit.

I let her choose the pattern on her end, while I copied the same one on mine.

I think this is their favorite DoodleBug Busy Bags necklace to date! (Mine too!)

patriotic glasses craft

Patriotic Foam Glasses Craft Kit

A pair of foam & plastic star-shaped glasses for your child to decorate using the included glittery star stickers.

Okay, so I may have “misplaced” the glitter stickers and subbed in some multi-color un-glittery ones. 😉

Not quite as patriotic as what was intended, but a lot more tolerable to have around the house without the glittery mess. #glitterphobe

Patriotic Parade Sticker Scene

Make a festive 4th of July parade theme using the background sheet and stickers provided.

The stickers were a little hard for the girls to remove, so the parade attendees were sadly missing a limb or two. 😉

I can’t say that I would recommend attending this particular parade. Haha

A fun mix of Father’s Day and 4th of July crafts from DoodleBug Busy Bags! Though I could have done without so much dang glitter, my girls definitely enjoyed it all. 😉 — Upcoming themes include “In the Ocean” (July), “Let’s Go On a Safari” (August), and “Camping Adventure” (September).

Let’s see what’s in the July 2017 PostBox!

PostBox review

Everything was shipped in a sturdy envelope with a Postmark’d Studio sticker in the corner.

post box review

A peek inside! — All of the cards were stacked together and secured in place with a string.

PostBox cards review

A 2-sided info card revealed the theme for July — whales! It also listed all of the cards included, along with the artists who made them. There were also some cute whale puns to use in your notes. 🙂 (I totally didn’t notice the greeting — “Whalecome” — until just now. Ha! Love it.)

Whale Hello card

“Whale Hello” August & Oak/Charlotte, NC

This sweet card features an adorable whale illustration with the words “Whale Hello” printed above it. It’s blank inside for your own personalization and comes with a kraft envelope. August & Oak are a husband and wife team who use their original illustrations and turn them into greeting cards and other paper products.

herman the whale

“Herman the Whale” Reyn Paper Company/Atlanta, GA

Herman the Whale wants to wish you a happy birthday! The die cut window on this card allows you to see Herman, but his message isn’t revealed until you open it up. Inside, he’s wishing the recipient a happy birthday in a metallic gold foil bubble. What a thoughtful whale he is. 😉

whale whale whale

“Whale, Whale, Whale, What Do We Have Here?” Kelly Shields/Cincinnati, OH

Haha! I love the tiny mustaches and top hats on these dapper lil’ whales. Plus, the pun itself is pretty darn cute. I’m thinking this letterpress card would be perfect for welcoming a newborn baby boy.

having a whale of a time card

whale card

“Having a Whale of a Time” Noteworthy Paper & Press/Missoula, MT

As you can see here, realistic-looking whales are a lot less cute than cartoony ones. 😉 Still, this card is definitely unique and would be really fun to receive in the mail. It’s hand drawn and printed on cotton paper using an antique press.

Whale, Congrats card

“Whale, Congrats” Man vs. George/Milwaukee, WI

Printed on 100% recycled paper, this whimsical card features a big gray whale surrounded by a school of orange fish with the word “Congrats” floating above him. The design continues onto the back of the card and it’s blank on the inside. A bright orange envelope complements the card nicely.

postage stamps

Postage

I love that they include postage! There were 4 forever stamps, along with one postcard stamp — 5 in all — for each of the cards.

Stabilo Point 88 Pen

This pen features non-smudging, water-based ink that can sustain long cap-off time. It has blue ink that dries quickly and a hexagon shape to keep it from rolling.

Postmark’d Studio Postcard

Though not listed on the info card, a thick/sturdy Postmark’d Studio postcard was also included.

I was really impressed with all of the fun whale-themed cards in July’s PostBox. Also, I’m a sucker for a good pun. 😉 I really appreciate that they include postage for mailing the cards too! Overall, a fun subscription for fans of unique stationery.

Let’s see what’s in the June 2017 Fit Snack box!

Fit Snack box

The familiar white & turquoise box was shipped via Priority Mail.

A peek inside!
June 2017 Fit Snack

An info card listed all of the snacks, as well as accompanying photos, short descriptions, and a few discount codes.

Ellyndale Naturals q cup

quinoa cup

Ellyndale Naturals Southwestern Barbeque Q Cup

I’ve been running low on lunch options this week, so I was happy to see this quinoa cup in the box. It’s made with a mix of organic quinoa, black beans, organic sweet corn, red bell peppers, and mesquite BBQ seasonings. Just add water, pop in the microwave for 60 seconds, let sit for 5 minutes, and enjoy.

Amsety bars

Amsety Bars in Dark Chocolate

Amsety Bar is the first nutrition bar to help support liver health. It’s made with organic, non-GMO ingredients and contains no refined sugar, sodium, or gluten. It’s also dairy-free and vegan-friendly. Two dark chocolate flavored bars were included.

Fawen

Fawen Drinkable Soup

A ready-to-drink soup made with gently cooked whole, organic vegetables and blended smooth with coconut milk. One bottle contains more than a full serving of vegetables with no added sweeteners or artificial preservatives. It’s gluten-free, non-GMO, and vegan-friendly. We actually received this same item (different flavor) in last month’s FitSnack, so I was kinda bummed to see it again so soon.

Nutiva

Nutiva Organic Hazelnut Spread in Classic

Organic hazelnut spread made with all natural, non-GMO ingredients. This contains 40% less sugar than the leading brand and is both vegan-friendly and gluten free. Thanks to the inclusion of flaxseed and chia seeds, the spread also has 450mg of plant-based omega-3 per serving.

Swish 4 energy

Swish 4 Energy Mouth Rinse

A unique mouth rinse that freshens breath, enhances alertness, cools your mouth, and helps you maintain endurance all in one 30-second swish.

Rise Buddy

Rise Buddy Rice Snacks

A healthier alternative to regular potato chips, these Rise Buddy snacks are made with brown rice and are baked, not fried. They’re also gluten-free and contain no trans fats. (This is another item that was also included in last month’s box, but in a different flavor.)

whey isolate

MR Supps Whey Isolate

Two bonus packets of vanilla flavored whey isolate protein powder were also included. Each packet contains a whopping 24 grams of protein!

June’s Fit Snack was a little disappointing to me… Mainly because two of the items were basically repeats from last month’s box (though different flavor variations). The Nutiva was also featured in a recent box, and while I do like it, I’d prefer to see more new items. Hopefully July’s box will be a little more “fresh”. 😉 — Remember, for a limited time you can save $3 on your first box! No coupon needed, just click this link.

Their projects include a variety of ways for children to explore concepts and materials and develop their own ideas. A full color mini magazine/booklet included a list of everything inside the box, as well as instructions for each project and helpful tips for getting the most out of the experience.

A River by Marc Martin

A River book

A River book

A River by Marc Martin

June’s featured book was A River by Marc Martin. Its beautiful illustrations help tell the story of a young girl who imagines that the river outside her window is taking her on a wonderful journey. Each pagespread shows the girl aboard her little boat as it meanders through the city, a jungle, farmlands, the forest, and more. I read it aloud to my girls and they both enjoyed pointing out all of the animals & other figures hidden throughout the pages.

matchstick pattern cards

Ready-Set-Go-Pack – Loose Parts Pattern Play

The first activity was one that was designed to be done “right away”, before reading the book to get your kiddo’s creative juices flowing. It consisted of 4 book-inspired pattern cards and an assortment of colored wooden matchsticks. The idea was to have your child play with them in an open-ended way — by sorting, building, and arranging them whichever way they’d like.

Making a pattern. (“Carrot” colors, of course. She’s carrot obsessed. 😉 )

More patterns!

Watercolor Painting with Washable Markers: Painted Boats

The second project involved exploring with watercolors. It consisted of Crayola Washable Markers, two wooden sailboats, and two paintbrushes. Children were to color the boats using the markers and then paint over them using the paintbrushes and a little water to achieve a neat watercolor effect.

Coloring!

Painting!

watercolor boats

The end result. I love how colorful they both turned out! 🙂

bleeding ink project

Resist Landscapes with Oil Pastels and Bleeding Ink

The last project involved exploring with oil pastels and bleeding tissue paper. Included were two sheets of watercolor paper, two black oil pastels, and various colors of tissue paper that “bleeds” when wet. First, your child was to use the pastels to draw a scene from the book or from their own imagination. Next, they were to paint the drawing with water and then apply the tissue paper all over its surface. Once the colors started to bleed, the tissue paper could be removed to reveal the “painting” below.

I told them to draw a scene from the book, but being 4-year-olds, they just kinda did their own thing. 😉

Laying down the tissue paper. She’s a bit obsessed with rainbows these days.

Finishing up.

Peeling all the paper off. — I think we were supposed to use more water, since there were a few spots that stayed white. We used the paintbrush to go over the whole thing again once all of the papers were off.

More peeling.

Masterpiece #1.

Masterpiece #2. — Again, I love how colorful they both turned out!

Needless to say, my girls and I had a lot of fun with the debut box from KidArtLit! Their favorite activity was the bleeding tissue paper watercolor painting, during which they kept saying how much they loved it. 🙂 It was great how all of the activities were tied into the theme of the featured book, which we were happy to add to our ever-growing library. Overall, a great box for unleashing your child’s imagination and creativity!

If you’re not aware, Beauty Box 5 is an affordable subscription box that delivers 5 deluxe samples and full-sized products right to your door every month. Each box will consist of a mix of both full and deluxe sample sized products — five in all. Items can include makeup, beauty accessories, hair, skincare, fragrance, body, nail products, and more. Featured brands will range from luxury, to drugstore, niche, eco-conscious, and even vegan-friendly. The total retail value will always be higher than the cost of the box.

Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Subscriptions are $12/month, or less with multi-month commitments. Shipping to US is free (Canada, add $3). — For a limited time, new subscribers will get a FREE Elizabeth Mott Eyeliner in Glitterati in their first box with a purchase of a subscription! No coupon code needed.

Let’s see what’s in the June 2017 Beauty Box 5 box!

Beauty Box 5

As always, everything was shipped in a small box with the Beauty Box 5 logo on the side.

June Beauty Box Five review

June’s theme was “Adventure Awaits” and the info card listed all of the items in the box, as well as photos, descriptions, and retail prices for each one.

LaRitzy lip pencil

La Ritzy lip pencil

LaRitzy Lip Pencil ($18)

I actually just got this same pencil in the same shade in another box that I reviewed earlier today. It’s a long-lasting liner that you can wear with your favorite lipstick or use to fill in your lips completely and top with a gloss. The formula is paraben-free, cruelty-free, and infused with plant oils and waxes to moisturize and protect your lips all day.

Did hair tie set

hair ties

Did Hair Jeweled Hair Tie Set ($7.50)

These pretty pink hair ties let you put your hair up without worrying about annoying creases that flimsier bands can cause. The set includes one light pink band and a darker pink with a bling-ed out charm.

Jesse's Girl eyeliner

Jesse’s Girl Liquid Eyeliner ($6.99)

A bright blue liquid eyeliner with a calligraphy-style brush for precision application. It has a quick-drying formula and long-lasting wear. I’m all about liquid liners, but I’m not really sure if I can pull off a bright blue look. (I’m thinking no. :/ )

Coastal Scents Revealed 3 palette

Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Palette Sampler

A mini sampler of eyeshadows from Coastal Scents’ Revealed 3 Palette. Four matte and shimmer shades were included, all of which are highly pigmented and buildable.

Prestige mascara

Prestige Cosmetics My Biggest Lashes Mascara ($7.50)

A volumizing and lengthening mascara with a brush that grabs close to the root for maximum coverage. You’ll get results with a single stroke and the formula is designed not to smudge, clump, or flake.

Yet another high value offering from Beauty Box 5! My favorite items this month were the LaRitzy lip pencil, hair ties, and shadow sampler. The total retail value (not including the sampler) was just under $40! — Remember, for a limited time new subscribers will get a FREE Elizabeth Mott Eyeliner in Glitterati in their first box with a purchase of a subscription! No coupon code needed.

It’s June 2017 bluum unboxing time!

If you’re not aware, bluum (yes, with a lowercase b) is a monthly subscription box for babies & kiddos from birth through age 5. Each box contains four or more products that are responsibly sourced, eco-friendly and often organic. The contents are based on the age of your kiddo in months, so there are many variations in the boxes that are sent in each shipment. (I don’t think I’ve seen any two boxes that were exactly the same.)

Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Subscriptions are $34/month or less with multi-month commitments. For a limited time, you can save 30% on your first month with coupon code “BABY30OFF!

My girls are currently 57 months old (remember — they go by months), so the bluum box I received was geared towards a 58 month (4 year old) child.

Let’s see what’s in my June 2017 bluum box!

bluum box

The familiar red box!

Usually there’s an insert indicating the current month and age range of your child, but mine was left out this time. Once your box is delivered, you’ll be able to log in to your account and view a list of its contents on their site.

Siliskin cups

silikids cups

silicone glass cups

Silikids Siliskin Glasses ($19.19, Amazon)

These neat glasses are encased in a shock absorbing silicone protective sleeve (a siliskin), giving added protection to the actual glass inside. They have an easy grip design and are microwave & dishwasher safe. Each glass holds 6 ounces of liquid and won’t absorb odors or mold like plastic cups. They’re also BPA free and hypoallergenic. 🙂

Stephen Joseph horse dress up

stephen joseph magnetic game

Stephen Joseph Horse Dress-Up On-the-Go Magnetic Game ($7.99, Amazon)

An easy activity for on-the-go, this set includes 2 double-sided horse pictures with over 30 magnetic pieces to decorate them with, along with a storage tin. There were no instructions provided, so I assume that you just put one of the horses inside the metal lid and then place the magnets where you wish (they’ll stick to the horse via the metal). My girls already opened this and had fun playing with all the magnet pieces. — They especially like the “purple F” in the bottom right corner of the photo above. 😉

Yorba hand wash

Yorba Organics Family Hand Wash ($11.95)

A 100% natural, non-toxic hand wash that’s safe for the whole family. It’s infused with wild harvested baobab fruit extract that cleanses the skin and leaves it feeling soft. The formula is vegan-friendly and free of triclosan, parabens, synthetic fragrances, sulfated surfactants, petrochemicals, synthetic colors, and other harmful ingredients.

Emergency vehicles book

playtown emergency book

Playtown Emergency Lift-the-Flap Book ($8.60, Amazon)

While my girls do love books, this one seemed a little young for my almost 5 year olds. It’s nicely designed though, with plenty of colorful illustrations and fun “lift the flaps” throughout. I’m probably going to hold onto it for the girls’ cousin who’s turning 2 this summer. 🙂

Aside from the board book, I was pretty happy with everything in my June bluum box. The glasses will certainly be put to use, my girls already like the magnet game, and we can never have too much hand soap. 😉 The total value (using Amazon prices) was just under $48, which is about $14 over the monthly subscription cost. Not bad!

Remember — if you’d like to sign up for bluum, you can save 30% on your first month with coupon code “BABY30OFF“!
