The “My First Book” series by Sophie Helenek is a great tool to actively engage and interact with your little ones from birth. Consisting of 4 differently themed board books, they introduce younger babies to concepts such as eye stimulation, listening skills, and developing their senses. Toddler-aged kiddos can use them to help with letter/word recognition, memory, spelling, and more.
The series consists of 4 board books with the following themes: Fruits, Sky Wonders, Musical Instruments, and Shapes. Simple, high-contrast black and white illustrations make it easy for younger babies to focus on. Each page is framed with a thin line, to encourage baby to keep their eyes on the featured illustration. The name of each object pictured is spelled out at the top of the page, with each letter in a different color to help with letter identification down the road.
The books were designed by new mom Sophie Helenek as a way to promote bonding and support baby’s developmental growth milestones. Helenek is an award-winning adventurer (she climbed Mount Everest!), elite athlete, and former NYC banker.
I was a little unsure of how my girls would like the books at first… Only because they seemed a little “young” for almost 2-year olds. However, when I saw that it could help with letter recognition and the pages can be written on with wipe-off markers (cool!), I was more than willing to check ’em out!
The books are a great size for little ones and feature super sturdy pages. They just may have even held up during the girls’ fun “books are for chewing” stage.
The Sky Wonders book features colorful planets, clouds, stars, snowflakes and other “sky”-related images.
Musical Instruments features, well, musical instruments! Guitars, violins, flutes, and even saxophones can be found in this book.
Fruits is probably my favorite of the series (hey, I like to eat!) and features popular fruits like apples, bananas, strawberries, and even the more exotic pomegranate!
Shapes includes the basics: You know, circles, squares, triangles, etc.
I plopped the stack of books in front of my girls and they immediately took the bait. 😉
Evie took a liking to Sky Wonders, which isn’t surprising since her favorite toy is “Wanda” — that star-shaped yellow wand up there. 🙂
Chloe didn’t have an immediate favorite, but instead carefully studied each book for an equal amount of time. She’s a thinker, that one. 😉
I’m very impressed with the “My First Book” series. I love that it can grow with your child and is appropriate from infancy all the way up to toddlerhood. Oh, and the books are affordable too! They currently sell individually for just $5.99 on Amazon! Yay!
Sophie kindly agreed to offer a free set of books to one of my readers. One lucky winner will get all 4 of the books in my review! Woohoo! Just enter via the Rafflecopter below!
