Daily Dose of Green recently announced a limited Mystery Box (still available!) to celebrate their one-year anniversary in July. The box would feature at least 10 eco-friendly products from the past year including “food, beauty, household and pet” — all for a one-time price of $15 (shipping included). I immediately signed up and kind of forgot about it, figuring it wouldn’t show up until July.
So when I received my box on Tuesday, I was beyond excited — a surprise fun mail day! Woo! (Yes, good mail days make me that happy.)
Oh, if you’re interested in getting this box, or subscribing, I’d suggest “Liking” them on Facebook. They’re still a small-ish company and have great customer service. I (kind of jokingly) asked if they could send me a baby/kid product instead of the pet one, and they totally did. Nice!
Alright… Time to unveil the Mystery Box!
Oooh! The first thing I saw was the candy. Yay!
Goody Good Stuff “Sour Fruit Salad” Candy – I haven’t had gummies like this in YEARS. Sadly, most of the chewy candy out there contains gelatin, which obviously isn’t suitable for vegans. THIS, however, is gelatin-free and freakin’ awesome! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed these, as I’m more of a chocolate person when it comes to sweets. Bonus points for also not including any artificial colors/flavors.
By Valenti Organics Lavender & Lime Body Oil – I normally don’t use body oil, but last night after I took a shower, I tried a little out. The lavender scent was nice and soothing, perfect for using before bedtime. I’m not sure that I would purchase this on my own (I prefer lotions to oils), but I’ll definitely work the remainder of my samples into my nightly routine.
Essence of Vali Passion Massage and Bath Oil – This stuff smells amazing! I was initially worried when I saw that it contains patchouli, but the other scents (notably orange and ginger) overpowered the “hippy smell”. I’ll definitely try this out next time I take a bath. Or if Mike decides to give me a massage (not holding my breath on that one!).
Original Sprout Island Bliss Shampoo – This is a LARGE sample. On the back it states that it’s a generous one-time use “for the whole family”. I used this last night and it definitely has an “island-y” feel to it. I’m always a little thrown by natural shampoos that don’t lather as much as “normal” ones, but it seemed to clean good enough. The scent lingered even after I used my regular conditioner, so that was nice.
Circle of Friends Organics Tear-Free Shampoo & Body Wash – This is what I received instead of the pet product. (I got similar products in my last box.) This one is a sensitive skin formula that’s “free of parabens, petroleum, sulfates, fragrances & dyes”. I’m always happy to get natural products for the girls, since I’ll be switching over to them once we run out of all the conventional stuff we received at my baby shower.
Kelapo Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – I’ve seen these packets in a ton of subscription boxes, so I figured it was only a matter of time before I got my own. I’ve never actually used coconut oil before, but I do recall seeing recipes that called for it and I never had any. Soooo… now I do!
Bee All Natural Organic Coconut Oil Soap – (Hmmm… Wonder if I can make my own soap with those packets of oil?) This is a cute little heart-shaped bar of soap made with “saponified organic coconut oil”. It promises to have a very rich lather, so I’m looking forward to using this. Plus, it’s super cute.
Daddy Van’s All Natural Beeswax & Lavender Furniture Polish – I really wish this didn’t contain beeswax. It smells so nice! It’s chemical and solvent-free. I have a dining room full of old furniture that I could use this on, but… beeswax. Ugh. I’ll probably give this to my mom (who also has her share of old/vintage wood pieces), so it doesn’t go to waste.
Margo’s Nutz Southwest Almond Slices – As mentioned earlier, I’m all about chocolate-y sweets, so I wasn’t all that into these nuts. They’re a little too spicy for my taste (which makes sense since they include picante sauce, mesquite herb fajita seasoning and cayenne pepper). I’ll give the rest of these to my dad, who’s all about spicy stuff.
Moody Sisters Organic Skincare Sugar Scrub – This is a cute little sample. I’ve never used a sugar scrub before, and something tells me my skin might be too sensitive for it. It does smell really nice though, so I might try it out on my feet to get rid of some of their roughness.
Be Natural Organics Daily Botanical Enzyme Peel – This promises to “loosen dead cells from the skin’s surface by dissolving glue-like substances that refuse to release dead skin cells through normal cleansing”. Knowing that I have these nasty glue-like substances on my face, holding my dead skin cells hostage, really makes me want to try this. Like, now.
So that’s my Daily Dose of Green Mystery box! It was a pretty nice mix of products, and most of them will be put to good use. I would have liked to have seen something chocolate-y, but hey, ya can’t have it all… 😉
