I haven’t reviewed an Avery & Austin box since May, so I was excited to have August’s box show up at my doorstep last week.
If you’re not aware, Avery & Austin is a subscription box that provides all the materials needed to host the perfect playdate for your child. Each box will contain enough supplies to make a craft or activity (or both) for 2 children, as well as a healthy snack (for 2), and even a “hostess gift” for mom. The projects are aimed at children aged 4 through 12, though with enough supervision, younger kiddos can enjoy them as well.
Subscriptions are $29/month with free shipping. Previous month’s boxes are also available for one-time purchase in their shop. You can save $5 on your first month with coupon code “PLAYDATE”.
Let’s see what’s in the August 2015 Avery & Austin box!
Everything was shipped in a large white box and the contents were wrapped in dark blue tissue paper sealed with an Avery & Austin sticker.
A peek inside!
The theme for August’s box is “Back to School” and features crafts & helpful essentials to kick off the new school year.
Pouches & Fabric Markers – Two pouches, along with 5 Crayola fabric markers were included for your child (and a friend) to decorate as they wish.
The girls had fun trying out all the colors and managed to fully decorate their pouches with limited fights over the markers. Success!
The completed pouches! The one on top features a “kitty with whiskers” accented with red scribbles. (I guess you have to be an expert interpreter of toddler art to really appreciate it. 😉 )
Duck Tape, Pencils, Paper Clips, Pencil Sharpener – Four rolls of patterned Duck Tape were included for transforming the look of boring ol’ No. 2 pencils. Just cut 2 strips of tape the length of a pencil, place one along the pencil, wrap the edges around, and finish with the second strip. Paper clips were also provided to turn into colorful bookmarks by sliding a piece of tape through the top and shaping it as you wish.
My kiddos are a little too young for this project, so I just did one on my own to see how it worked. It looks cute and all, but I’m not sure how practical it is. The finished pencil wouldn’t even fit inside the provided pencil sharpener. Ah well. They’d still look cute in a pencil holder. 😉
Erasers – Two erasers wrapped up to resemble candy were also included. Fun!
Mabel’s Labels – Another great back-to-school item! — Two packs of Mabel’s Labels were included in both pink/girl and blue/boy themes. Each pack contains 30 labels which are waterproof, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.
Revolution Foods Dynamos Protein Power Bites – Each Avery & Austin box includes a healthy treat. This time it was triple berry flavored protein bites from Revolution Foods.
The girls clearly enjoyed ’em! (Don’t mind their insane bedhead… This is why they’re in ponytails 99% of the time. 😉 )
Mom Gift – This month’s mom gift was a big zippered pouch from Dogeared. It’s made in the USA and I’m thinking it’ll be perfect for craft supply storage.
Vamousse Lice Protection – Hey, it happens… Kids get lice. Especially when they’re in school. This homeopathic, pesticide-free treatment helps protect your little ones from bringing ’em home.
The box also included a few coupons. Most notable being one for a FREE Revolution Foods product. (I actually received two, but I’m not sure if that was intentional or if I just got lucky!)
I thought Avery & Austin did an awesome job at curating a fun back to school themed box. The crafts were cute and easy, the mom gift was useful, and the labels & lice treatment were smart additions. Oh, and the snacks were very well received too! 😉
If you’d like to try them out, you can save $5 on your first month with coupon code “PLAYDATE”!
