BeadCrate is a subscription box that sends you a new collection of hand curated beads and related supplies every month.
Each box will include a variety of different beads, often based on a specific theme. There are 3 box sizes available: The Hobbyist (a petite package for the more restrained designer), The Enthusiast (for the avid designer), and The Collector (for discerning designers who want it all). Boxes can include Toho seed beads, accent beads, druks, faceted rondelles, and more.
BeadCrate subscriptions start as low as $7.99/month plus shipping. Discounts are available for multi-month commitments.
Let’s see what’s in the March 2016 “The Enthusiast” BeadCrate!
The BeadCrate box!
A peek inside.
The theme for March’s BeadCrate was “Mermaid” and featured a selection of pretty teal and aqua colored beads. A handy guide was included which listed the specs for each set of beads, categorized by letter (Selection A, B, etc.).
All of the beads were tucked into this satiny blue pouch.
7x5mm Center Drilled Fresh Water Cultured Pearls – So fancy! This packet contained 10 of these shiny egg-shaped fresh water cultured pearls. Great for creating clean, classic looking pieces.
3mm Aqua Czech Glass Druks – Roughly 300 tiny Czech glass beads in a nice aqua color. (I apologize for the horrible photo quality… I really should have taken the beads out/placed them on a different surface. Ah well, live and learn…)
8x3mm Lt. Teal Dime Beads Czech Glass – These flat teal beads are SO pretty! They definitely have a strong “mermaid” vibe goin’ on too. 🙂 (~25 included)
3mm Lt. Teal Fire Polished Faceted Rounds Czech Glass – More tiny teal glass beads. (~50 included)
9x6mm Vertical Hole Teal AB Tear Drops Czech Glass – If these pretty iridescent beads don’t look like the color of mermaid tails, I don’t know what does. 😉 (~25 included)
5mm Luster Iris Atlantic Blue Melons Czech Glass – These do look like teeny tiny round melons! Pretty. 🙂 (~50 included)
6x6mm Emerald Biocone Czech Glass – A greener, more geometric-shaped bead. (~50 included)
6mm Matte Teal AB Lentils Czech Glass – These flat “lentil” beads were probably the bluest of the bunch. I really like the matte finish… They remind me of tiny pieces of sea glass. (~50 included)
11/0 Toho Transparent-Frosted Crystal Japanese Glass – The tiniest beads in the box, these kind of resemble fish eggs. (Or at least what I think fish eggs look like?) The 5.5″ tube contains roughly 18 grams of beads.
BeadCrate is clearly an ideal subscription box for anyone who enjoys jewelry making and working with various types of beads. — It almost makes me want to try it myself! The featured beads were gorgeous and totally went along with the mermaid theme. According to the info sheet, the box had an approximate retail value of over $28. Not bad!
