Birchbox time!
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in their shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
Let the December 2015 Birchbox unboxing begin!
The box featured a fun white wintery (ugly sweater?) design.
A peek inside. On top was a coupon good for $10 off your next $35 purchase from their shop!
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as a brief description and retail prices for the full-sized versions.
Soap & Paper Factory Shea Butter Hand Cream in “Green Tea” (~$4) – I recently received a tube of this hand cream (a different scent) in another subscription box and I love it. The packaging is so pretty and the cream itself has a great scent. I can never have enough hand cream.
Gorge I’ll Make You Look Amazing Daily Spray (~$7) – This vegan-friendly leave-in conditioning spray is supposed to protect, repair, add shine, detangle, and more. I typically don’t use products like this, but I’ll give it a try. At least it’s vegan?
Coastal Scents styleEYES Eyeshadow Palette (~$2?) – Subscribers were able to choose from a few different color options and I went for this emerald & gold combo. I wanted to try something that would push me out of my brown/black comfort zone and this will definitely do just that.
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray (~$10?) – I know this is a pricier brand that has kind of a cult following, but I’m just not a fan of hair products. This dry texturizing spray is used to soak up oil and give your hair more body and bounce. I wish I could opt out of hair products completely, because I rarely use ’em. :/
Coola Face SPF 30 Unscented Matte Tint (~$5?) – Okay, I’ll be honest… I’m still not totally sure what “BB” cream is. Or “CC” for that matter. (Is there an “AA” too, or did they skip over that one?) Anywhoooo… The info card simply describes this as a moisturizer with a matte finish and sunscreen. So… I dunno. Not sure if I’ll use it.
I wasn’t really thrilled with this month’s Birchbox, but it wasn’t awful. I like the hand cream and I’ll definitely try out the shadows… The other items were just kinda “meh”. Still a good value though at almost $30 in products.
If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, new customers can get 100 points when you sign up with this link and use coupon code “BBJETBLUE10“– 100 points is equal to $10.00 to spend in their shop. Since the box itself is $10/month, it’s like getting your first one for FREE!
