Hello there, Birchbox! Unfortunately, like last month, I wasn’t too excited about February’s selection when I got to view the sneak peek… I wasn’t even a fan of the sample choice I got to pick. Just not my cup o’ tea. Buuut… let’s see what I got anyway…
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in their shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
Time to see what’s in my February Birchbox!
The box itself was kinda fun… This month’s “theme” is friendship, hence the text message bubble pattern.
I like how the info card includes descriptions, as well as instructions on how to use each product.
Gilchrist & Soames London Collection Shower Gel (~$2) – This shower gel is made without parabens, phthalates, or other icky stuff. It smells nice and I might use it, though I’m pretty addicted to natural bar soaps lately. We’ll see.
PARLOR by Jeff Chastain Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray (~$5) – I picked this as my sample choice, but I’m not sure why. I think one of the other choices was makeup remover, which I have a ton of… and I don’t remember the other one. Anywhooo… This is a newly released product and a Birchbox exclusive. It’s supposed to give you non-drying, beachy waves.
Juicy Couture Hollywood Royal (~$1.50) – Ugh. Between Birchbox and Ipsy, I feel like I’ve gotten a TON of perfume samples lately. Which is a bummer since I hardly ever use it. I sprayed a little of this in the air for kicks, and…. Nope. Still not a fan of perfume.
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant (~$6.50) – I’ve never heard of an exfoliant that you leave on. Weird. This product claims to even out your skin tone by reducing redness and building collagen. It also unclogs enlarged pores. Interesting. Worth a try, I spose.
TheBalm Cosmetics Read My Lips Lip Gloss in “BAM!” – (~$4) – I really wish I could just opt out of all lip products from subscription boxes, but alas, I cannot. I only use lip balms, so I’ll be passing this along.
Once again, I feel kinda “meh” about my Birchbox choices. This is the second month in a row that I’ve gotten a perfume sample, which I never use. The rest of the things (aside from the lip gloss) are things I could try, but I’m not too excited about any of them. Oh well. Maybe I’ll get lucky next month. I’m mainly in it for the points anyway. 😉
If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, new customers can get 100 points when you sign up with this link and use coupon code “bbstore100“– 100 points is equal to $10.00 to spend in their shop (if that code doesn’t work, try “JILLIAN“). Since the box itself is $10/month, it’s like getting your first one for FREE!
Disclosure: I purchased this box on my own. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate/referral links.
