January Birchbox time!
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in the Birchbox shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
Let the January 2016 Birchbox unboxing begin!
The box!
A peek inside.
January’s Birchbox included a sheet of stickers to inspire you to decide what your “theme” for the new year will be.
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as a brief description and retail prices for the full-sized versions.
Eyeko London Fat Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($16) – This liquid liner pen features a big Sharpie-like tip with a fine(ish) point at the end. (Sorry, totally forgot to take a photo of it!) I tested it out on the info card and it goes on just like a marker & is just as bold. That said, I’m a wee bit nervous to try it on my actual eyes!
Key West Aloe Gentle Aloe Facial Cleanser (~$3) – An ultra gentle facial cleanser that’s made with 30% aloe vera… This not only removes makeup and impurities, but also tones & hydrates the skin.
Meet Your Destiny 0.2 Eau de Parfum (~$2?) – Meh. I hate getting perfume samples in beauty boxes, so I guess it’s only fitting that I receive one in my first Birchbox of the year. Boooo.
TONYMOLY Tony Tint Delight (~$2?) – I don’t typically wear lip stains, and this one is a seriously BOLD red shade which I couldn’t pull off even if I did wear ’em. The package is cute though? 😉
Ciate London Mini Paint Pot in Mineral Clarity ($8) – Yay, polish! I’m always happy to get more nail polish, so this almost makes up for that stupid perfume sample. 😉 It’s a pretty blue-ish purple shade with silver glitter.
Overall, I thought my January Birchbox was pretty good. I love the polish and will definitely try out the eyeliner. Those two items alone retail for more than double the cost of my monthly Birchbox subscription, so I’m happy. 😉 All totaled, the retail value of this month’s box was roughly $30. Nice!
If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, new customers can get their first box for just $5 with coupon code “HAPPY5“! — Hurry, offer only good thru 1/9/16!

My box was totally different except I did get the Eyeko London Fat Liquid Eyeliner in Black. But I will say this is my favorite box to date. Everything I can use. Just a awesome box this month. 🙂

I *think* everyone got the Eyeko liner. Nice! I’m happy when I get at least 2 products I’ll use. haha 😉

I think most people who got the Eyeko liner selected it as their sample choice! Although most of the boxes I’ve seen posted do contain it. I also got the Ciaté polish, but in a different color — yours looks stunning!

Oh yeah! Forgot about sample choice. Oops! 😉
