May 2016 Birchbox unboxing time!
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in the Birchbox shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
For a limited time, new subscribers can 50 free points (worth $5 in their shop) with coupon code SUBSCRIBENOW50.
Okay, let the May 2016 Birchbox unboxing begin!
The box! This month Birchbox partnered with Keds to create exclusive styles featuring this month’s box design. (They’re available in the Birchbox shop for a limited time!)
A peek inside. May’s box featured products to help keep you radiant during your outdoor adventures.
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as a brief description and retail prices for the full-sized versions.
COOLA Classic Face Sport SPF 50 White Tea – I believe everyone got to choose a sunscreen sample this month and this is the one I went with. The tube is teeeeeny tiny, which I didn’t really expect. The formula is made with organic ingredients and has an SPF of 50. It’s also moisturizing, which is a plus for me.
ModelCo Lip Lacquer in “Morocco” – For some reason, I didn’t realize how orange-y this gloss looked until I actually put it on. It also made my lips feel really dry after I dabbed it off. :/
Goldfaden MD Doctor’s Scrub – An exfoliating facial scrub that moisturizes, hydrates, and plumps with the help of hyaluronic acid — which also protects the skin from free radicals. I have super sensitive skin, so I’m not sure if I should give this one a try.
Davroe Hair Wellness Ends Repair – A leave-in treatment that helps strengthen hair and prevents breakage & split ends. The formula is both petrochemical and paraben free. My hair is very short, so I really have no use for a product like this. (Figures it’s the largest sample in the box.)
Juliette has a Gun Another Oud – Meh. The only fragrances I wear these days are essential oil based, so perfume samples like this are absolutely useless to me. I really wish there was a way to opt out of certain product categories.
Unfortunately, my May Birchbox was kind of a disappointment. Aside from the tiny sample of sunscreen, I don’t think I’ll use anything else in the box. Boo. Ah well, there’s always next month.
