It’s April 2017 bluum unboxing time!
If you’re not aware, bluum (yes, with a lowercase b) is a monthly subscription box for babies & kiddos from birth through age 5. Each box contains four or more products that are responsibly sourced, eco-friendly and often organic. The contents are based on the age of your kiddo in months, so there are many variations in the boxes that are sent in each shipment. (I don’t think I’ve seen any two boxes that were exactly the same.)
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.
bluum now gives you the option to choose the exact items that you’ll receive in your box! When you log into your account you’ll be given a chance to pick one item from each of the available categories for that month’s box (food, toys, books, etc). If you’d rather be surprised, you can forgo picking and have them choose the items as they did in the past. They also give you the choice of opting out of the “mom” items, which I love because I kinda hated getting things for myself in a kid’s box. 😉
Subscriptions are $34/month or less with multi-month commitments. For a limited time, you can save $10 on your first month with coupon code “MRVA286CCE“.
My girls are currently 55 months old (remember — they go by months), so the bluum box I received was geared towards a 56 month (4 year old) child.
Let’s see what’s in my April 2017 bluum box!
The familiar red box!
A peek inside!
Usually there’s an insert indicating the current month and age range of your child, but mine was left out this time. Once your box is delivered, you’ll be able to log in to your account and view a list of its contents on their site.
Spurtle Turtle Game ($9.99)
I don’t see boxed games offered by bluum too often, so I had to choose this one when it popped up under my selections for April. It’s a simple matching game that’s played by pressing the turtle’s back to spurt out tokens, and then try to find matching sets. Once all of the tokens are out of the turtle, you play the rest of the game like standard memory, flipping over two tokens at a time to try to find a match. It seems like a fun game and I’m happy that it doesn’t need batteries. 😉
Melissa & Doug Magnetic Wooden Bug Catching Game ($7.99)
I remembered my girls playing this a few times last year with their speech therapist, so I decided to include it in our box. (I’m honestly not sure if they’re too old for it now, but if there’s no interest it can easily be gifted.) As with most (all?) Melissa & Doug puzzles, the pieces are made of wood and feature beautifully designed illustrations. The cool thing about this one in particular, is that all of the bug pieces have metal circles built into them which allow you to “catch” them with the magnetic net.
One, Two, Three Sticker and Draw Book ($2.67)
I selected this book because it looked like something my girls would enjoy, but once I got to flip through the pages, I knew they would LOVE it. (Well, one of them anyway.) Not only does it have fun learning activities, but it also has… CARROTS! My older (by a minute) daughter is obsessed with carrots. Especially when they have faces. (It all started when she won this at a fall festival two years ago.) An odd obsession, yes, but that makes the fact that they were included in this book even cooler. 😉
Stephen Joseph Farm Sketch Pad ($9.90)
I actually chose/received this in another bluum box a few months ago, but decided to select it again so both girls can have their own. This cute barn-shaped sketch pad features 100 blank pages, along with a pack of 6 crayons and 2 sheets of farm-themed stickers. It also has a built-in easy carry handle and an attached reusable/resealable crayon pouch.
Thanks in part to the unexpected inclusion of happy carrots, my kiddos were thrilled with April’s bluum box. 😉 We’ll likely use every one of the items, which is always a plus. The total value (using Amazon prices) was a little over $30… Not quite as high as the monthly cost, but since I chose the items myself without focusing on value, I’m fine with that. 🙂
