Let’s see what’s in my January 2017 BookCase.Club box!
Everything was shipped in a white and blue box with the BookCase.Club logo on top.
A peek inside! — As always, I chose the “Read to Me” Case which includes 4 hardcover children’s books.
A fun New Year’s themed activity sheet was included for the kiddos.
Aw, Nuts! by Rob McClurkan ($15.02, Amazon)
This adorable book follows a determined little squirrel as he tries to get his hands on the most perfect acorn. No matter what he does, the acorn always ends up just out of his grasp. Whenever he hits an obstacle that sets him back, he says “Aw, nuts!”, but still continues on. In the end, he stumbles upon an enormous pile of acorns and he happily piles them into his home, satisfied at last… That is, until he sees another perfect acorn start bouncing away. 😉
Murilla Gorilla, Jungle Detective by Jennifer Lloyd ($9.50, Amazon)
I’ve never seen a chapter book aimed at preschool-aged kids, so this was a neat find. It’s a short tale about Murilla Gorilla and her quest to solve the mystery of the missing banana muffins. Spoiler alert: It was Little Chimp!
The Adventures of Owl and the Pussycat by Coral Rumble ($6.99, Amazon)
Based on the classic Edward Lear poem, The Owl and the Pussycat, this book follows two children (dressed as an owl and a pussycat) as they imagine themselves going on various adventures in their cardboard box “boat”. The story itself seemed a bit lacking, but the beautifully drawn illustrations made up for it. 🙂
Crankenstein by Samantha Berger ($12.70, Amazon)
Oh, how I can relate to this book! — Especially the cough syrup bit, as we just dealt with the whole “I don’t WANT to take my cough medicine” thing not too long ago. (Fun times.) This book portrays a cranky little boy as “Crankenstein”, a crabby monster who hates everything from melting popsicles, to cough syrup, to long lines, and more. As relatable as it is, I kinda wish it didn’t use the word “hate” on nearly every page. Not exactly a word I want my 4 year olds to throw around. (I recently heard one of them use it about a toy and had to explain that it’s not a nice word to say.) I know there’s much worse words they can say, but still… I want to delay the inevitable “I hate you mommy!” for as long as I can. 😉
Another impressive selection of books from BookCase.Club! My favorites this time were “Aw, Nuts!” and “Crankenstein” (despite the “H” word!). The total retail (Amazon) value for all 4 books for January’s box was just over $44! 😀 — Don’t forget, you can save 15% on your first month with coupon code “Rosebuds15“!
