Let’s see what’s in my October 2016 BookCase.Club box!
Everything was shipped in a white and blue box with the BookCase.Club logo on the lid.
A peek inside! — I chose the “Read to Me” Case which includes 4 children’s books.
There wasn’t a true info card, but they did include a couple Halloween themed activities on a signed insert card.
Halloween Surprise by Corinne Demas ($12.99, Amazon) – This book is adorable and is probably my favorite of the bunch. It’s about a little girl named Lily who can’t figure out what she wants to be for Halloween. After a lot of brainstorming she finally comes up with the perfect idea (no spoilers here! 😉 ).
Little Goblins Ten by Pamela Jane ($14.10, Amazon) – Another Halloween-y (but not too spooky) book that’s a spin on the old nursery rhyme “Over in the Meadow.” It features friendly looking skeletons, goblins, ghosts, monsters, and more. Perfect for younger kids who may be afraid of the more menacing ghouls in other monster-themed books.
On a Windy Night by Nancy Raines Day ($15.12, Amazon) – I love the illustrations in this book! The cross-hatched pen-and-ink style somehow makes the story even spookier. It tells the story of a little boy as he heads home on Halloween night, seeing (and hearing) frightening things along the way. It’s told in a fun rhyming verse and turns out to not be as scary as it seems (the scary sights and sounds are only in the boy’s head).
Sipping Spiders Through a Straw by Kelly DiPucchio ($?) – This is no longer being sold directly by Amazon and I couldn’t find it for sale on other sites, so I’m not sure of the value (there wasn’t a price on the book itself either). Value aside, this did get great reviews on Amazon when it was being sold by them. It’s a collection of campfire songs rewritten as creepy Halloween rhymes, complete with spooky illustrations to accompany each one.
My first experience with BookCase.Club was great! I love that they went for a Halloween theme for October’s box, especially since we don’t have too many in our collection. The titles they selected were perfect for my 4-year-olds, without being too scary. While I couldn’t find a value for the last book, the total retail (Amazon) value for the first 3 was just over $42! An awesome deal for a $9.99/month box. 😀 — Plus, you can save 15% on your first month with coupon code “Rosebuds15“!
