The Girl in the Red Coat by Kate Hamer ($15.57) – A debut thriller from author Kate Hamer, this novel is about the abduction of a little girl — one of my biggest fears.
From Amazon.com: Beth, a single mother, takes her 8-year-old daughter, Carmel, to a local festival for some fun and frivolity and she vanishes. What follows is an unusual and terrifying journey for them both. Kate Hamer’s sophisticated debut, The Girl in the Red Coat, is no ordinary whodunit, nor does it resort to over-the-top prurience to get under your skin. In many ways, this makes it even more chilling, as Hamer masterfully manipulates the reader into anticipating the worst with each (frantically) turned page. But ultimately it’s two parallel tales of survival: How does Beth press on in the face of paralyzing shame and worry? How does Carmel keep her wits about her in a frightening and complex situation beyond her comprehension? What gives this novel unexpected power and heart are the ways in which they find to hold onto themselves.
The Perfect Scarf by Northernly ($28) – My photos do NOT do this handmade scarf justice! First off, it’s a much deeper (kind of forest-y) green in person. Second, it’s BIG (I almost thought it was a sweater when I saw it in the box). And third, it’s super soft. The scarf features a cable knit that’s made with 100% acrylic yarn and accented with custom buttons. Cozy indeed!
Nossa Familia Coffee Ernesto’s House Blend (~$8) – Coffee! This package contains 8 ounces of whole bean coffee roasted in Portland. It’s a medium roast that features “sweet, fruity, and floral aspects with a honeyed, toffee-like quality”. Sounds good to me!
Dragonfly Bookmark ($8) – This pretty handmade bookmark from Etsy shop PNL Jewelry Designs features an antique silvertone look with hand-wire wrapped red Swarovski crystals and a crystal dragonfly dangling from a chain. I wasn’t sure how this was supposed to be placed inside of a book when I took my photos, but later saw how it’s done here. Cute!
Missionary Chocolates Handcrafted Vegan Truffles ($6) – Oh, hello VEGAN TRUFFLES!! I think it’s safe to say that I was absolutely STOKED to see these included in the box. The sampler contained two different flavors — Simply Espresso and Vanilla Salted Caramel. YUM!!
I’m incredibly impressed by the debut Cozy Reader Club box! I love that they included so many great artisan products along with the novel. The whole box certainly had a major cozy vibe goin’ on and provided everything you need for a short afternoon retreat… even if it’s just to your couch. 😉 The total value of all the items came to just over $65, which is right in line with the cost of the box. But remember — You can save $10/month for life with coupon code “COZYREADER“!

I love Missionary Chocolates! My friend lives in Portland and sent them to me once when I was sick. Since then, I have begged her to send them to me whenever she wants. I think my favorite one is the Lavender.
