Let’s see what’s in the Spring 2025 Curiosity Box!
Everything was shipped in a small black box with the Curiosity Box logo on the side. — The pattern on the top of the box can be used to play a board game called “Hex”. (Instructions are printed under the front box flap.) Neat!
A peek inside!
A 2-sided info card listed all of the items in this quarter’s box, along with photos and a brief description for each one.
A quarterly magazine is also included in the box, which provides additional details about each item as well as other science-y goodness.
Omnijump: Six-in-One Marble Solitaire
I had a similar game when I was little, but it was triangle-shaped and used golf tees instead of marbles. The version above includes six different game boards (including the triangle!) — each represented by a its own uniquely colored border/outline. The games are played by “jumping” one marble over another, removing the jumped over (middle) marble from the board. You continue on, removing marbles with the goal of having just a single marble left at the end (sometimes in a specific spot). I’m just as bad at it today as I remember being as a child, but it’s still a fun challenge! Also, big points for the overall design. It’s very nicely made and I love that the marbles can be hidden right beneath the board itself. 🙂
Curiosity Bricks: Zinc, Aluminum, Brass, Steel
How cool is this?! — A little box of LEGO-style bricks made from four of the most important metals in the world: Zinc, Aluminum, Brass, and Steel. These materials were specifically chosen for their strength, appearance, and tactile response. Each beautifully crafted brick was precision-milled on a CNC lathe and reflects over a year’s work by the Curiosity Box team. Fun fact: Every person on earth has an average of 86 LEGO bricks in their home. (I know we have well over that amount in ours!)

What Is Color?: 50 Questions & Answers on the Science of Color
This Curiosity Box “Official Selection” poses — and answers — 50 questions related to how we see and perceive color. You’ll learn about pigment, the visible spectrum, complementary colors, simultaneous contrast, and so much more. A great resource for artists, designers, students, decorators, and anyone with an appreciation for wonderful world of color.
Nitinol Paperclip
According to the info booklet/magazine, nitinol is a shape memory alloy (made of 40% nickel and 60% titanium) that was discovered accidentally at a weapons lab. — Rather ironic, given that its now used in heart valves, blood vessel stents, and other life-extending medical devices. 🙂 The cool thing about nitinol is its ability to restore its original form when its exposed to heat. When the nitinol paperclip above is bent into a different shape, you can simply drop it into a cup of boiling water and see it instantly “bounce back”.
Here it is demonstrated by my daughter, who bent it into a heart shape:
Into the boiling water it went…
…and quickly…
…it returned to its original paperclip form. Yay, science! 😉
Impossible Brick Shirt
Each Curiosity Box comes with a new t-shirt that relates to that quarter’s overall theme. The Spring 2025 box featured a yellow tee adorned with a black “impossible bricks” design. Known as an ambiguous illusion, this brick(s) illustration causes you to shift from one object to another as your perception of them changes. In this case, it shifts between the brick/bricks being concave or convex. (I should note that although the tee looks VERY bright yellow in my photos, it’s much more muted in real life. 😉 )
Illusion Stickers
More brick-related illusions! — This time in sticker form. There are seven black & red stickers in all, including the design featured on your brand new (not quite as bright yellow) t-shirt.
The Spring 2025 Curiosity Box was my favorite curation to date! The Omnijump game will be a great addition to our family game cupboard, the Nitinol Paperclip was fun to experiment with, and the Curious Bricks are just plain COOL! 😀 — Interested in getting a Curiosity Box for yourself or as a unique gift? — Don’t forget to use coupon code “ROSEBUDS25” at checkout to save 25% on your first box!
