CurlKit is a monthly subscription that caters to the specific hair needs for women of color.
Each box will contain 6 to 9 sample-sized and full sized products that have all been tested and approved by the CurlKit team. You can expect to receive anything from conditioners, to pomades, and everything in between. You’ll find both well-known brands, as well as some smaller, independent ones.
CurlKit subscriptions are $25/month including shipping. (Stay tuned for a discount at the end of this post!)
Let’s see what’s in the July 2015 CurlKit!
The box! — It was so full that the lid could barely stay on. Definitely a sign of a good box.
An informative booklet, “Curl Life”, was included featuring tips and tricks for the “curly life”. This was also where you can find more info on the products included in this month’s box.
A peek inside — so full! Okay, I should probably include a disclaimer here… I am a paler than pale white girl, so I honestly know nothing about hair care for women of color. However, I’m sure I have some readers who could benefit from a box like this, so despite my admitted ignorance on the subject, I still wanted to review it. Apologies if I sound like I have no idea what I’m talking about here… 😉 Feel free to comment with any corrections/suggestions. (Oh, and you’ll notice that I didn’t remove any of the protective tape used for shipping (to prevent leakage). Since these products aren’t for me, I’ll likely pass them along to others who can actually benefit from them.) Okay, here we go…
Creme of Nature Argan Oil Moisturizing Milk Masque ($9.99) – This is described as a deep treatment for strengthening, restoring, and hydrating the hair. It’s formulated for all curl types and is free of icky stuff like parabens, mineral oils, and sulfates.
Curls-R-Us Moisturizing Hair Lotion (~$10?) – I wasn’t able to find this online, so I’m guessing at the value based on similar items. You can use this on wet hair after washing, or use daily to restore moisture and help define curls.
Alikay Naturals Bentonite Me Baby Bentonite Clay ($8.97) – I think I might actually be able to use this one! Woo! This product contains 100% bentonite clay, which is made from aged volcanic ash. It acts as a natural clarifier, detoxifier, and purifier for your skin, hair, scalp, and body.
Keirenae Hair & Body Butter (~$4) – This wasn’t listed in the booklet, so I’m guessing it’s a bonus item? Either way, it smells amazing and is likely another product that I’ll be using myself. It’s a body butter that can be used on your hair or body (I’ll go with the latter). It contains natural ingredients including Shea & Mango Butters, Vitamin E, Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernal Oils, and Coconut Oils.
Blue Magic Olive Oil Leave-In Styling Conditioner (~$3) – A leave-in conditioner that moisturizes with real olive oil in a non-greasy formula.
Dove Quench Absolute Creme Serum ($5.98) – A lightweight leave-in serum for coarse, curly hair. This also wasn’t listed in the info booklet, but they do mention a bonus item, so I’m guessing this is it?
Creme of Nature Samples – 100% Pure Argan Oil and Perfect Edges.
While CurlKit clearly isn’t a box for me, I think it’s an excellent one for anyone with naturally curly hair. I was impressed with the amount of products and the value is great too — roughly $42 in product for just $25/month.
