The Darn Good Yarn “Skirt of the Month Club” is a subscription service that delivers a new handmade mystery sari wrap skirt to your door every month.
Each skirt is handmade in India using 100% reclaimed traditional sari material (a silk/polyester blend) — meaning every piece will be one of a kind. The artisans pick layers of sari fabric and sew them together, with the shorter layer becoming the ‘outside’ and the longer layer becoming the ‘inside’ of the skirt. This makes the skirts reversible — so you’re actually getting 2 skirts in one! The artist chooses which colors and patterns go together, giving each skirt the artist’s individual style and touch.
Upon signing up, you can choose to leave the skirt length up to their team (by selecting “seasonal” length) or pick and choose your own length (mini, tea, or maxi). Skirts are available in a range of sizes and the adjustable waistband makes finding a comfortable fit easy. Plus, you can easily swap lengths and/or sizes at any time using the subscriber dashboard.

Let’s see what’s in my July 2022 Darn Good Yarn “Skirt of the Month Club” shipment!
The skirt was shipped in a purple & white recyclable polymailer bag with the Darn Good Yarn logo printed on the label.
A 2-sided insert card thanked me for supporting the artisans responsible for my new skirt and included a coupon for my next purchase.
The skirt itself was fold up and sealed in its own biodegradable bag.
I requested a maxi skirt in cooler tones and that’s exactly what I received! 🙂
My regular size in skirts is a medium (or 6/8) and this 4-12 size was perfect.
Since it’s a wrap skirt, it can comfortably fit a wide range of sizes. As you can see in the photo above, each skirt has pre-cut loops to thread the included belt to achieve the best fit for your body. (There are also helpful video tutorials on the Darn Good Yarn website that show how to properly wear/adjust the skirt, as well as alternative ways of stying it.)
Here’s a better look at the full front of my skirt…
…and of the back. I absolutely LOVE the color palette that the artisan chose! So pretty! 😀
My first experience with the Darn Good Yarn “Skirt of the Month Club” was a great one! I’m so happy with the skirt they sent and the colors/patterns couldn’t be more perfect. I love that it was made using upcycled saris and that it gave fair employment to the artisans who crafted it. Everyone wins! 😀 — Remember, for a limited time, you can save $5 on your first month with coupon code “TRYME“!
