It’s DoodleBug Busy Bags time! — The theme for August’s “bag” was “Animal Science: Birds & Insects”!
If you’re new to them, DoodleBug Busy Bags is a fun subscription for little ones from Kidable Adventures (the company behind Little Thinker Box). Bags are aimed at children ages 3 through 9 and contain all of the materials needed to complete 4 to 8 fun crafts. Each bag will focus on a different theme, often relating to upcoming holidays or seasons. Monthly subscriptions are $15.99 and include free shipping.
Let’s see what’s in the August 2016 DoodleBug Busy Bag!
As always, all of the crafts were shipped in a padded envelope and sealed in a ziplock bag.
All of the crafts were listed on info sheet, along with photos and tips on how to complete each one. There were also a few fun facts about birds and insects.
Foam and Bead Bug Ornament Craft – My girls LOVE butterflies so they were happy to get the butterfly version of this bead craft. It involved attaching a self-sticking body, then poking out all of the foam holes and inserting colorful plastic beads in their place.
Pushin’ the beads in place.
The finished result!
Spring Bird Paper Ornament Craft Kit – A paper bird craft that required a bit of glueing — a glue stick was included, but not pictured above.
Putting the wings in place.
Glow in the Dark Pony Bead Lightning Bug Craft – Since the girls just saw real lightning bugs for the first time last month, they were super pumped about this craft. It was a bit more challenging than what they were up to though, so my husband helped them out a bit. (I think they only attached the eyes. 😉 )
The bird & the lightning bug! SO cute.
Owl Craft Kit – An easy peel and stick owl kit that the girls were able to complete entirely on their own.
Owls need eyes.
Whooty-whooo!
Bird Nest Craft – I think this was my favorite craft in the bunch! To make the nest, you needed to roll the paper bag outward and continue rolling down until you reached the bottom. Then just add the crinkle paper, pom-pom “eggs”, and two little red birds.
The tiny birds were a major hit! 🙂
I never would have thought to make a “nest” out of a paper bag. Love it!
3D Butterfly Craft – Using the provided stickers, your child can decorate the two butterflies and assemble them at the slits to make one 3D insect.
Decoratin’.
Butterfly complete!
Bug Mask – Color your own bug mask with the package of included crayons.
Fancy shoes there, bug.
All color-fied!
Bird Art – I’m not sure why I included the glue stick in the photo above, since the felt birds are self-sticking… But anyway, this craft simply called for sticking all of the birds on the blue background however your child wanted.
“Put a bird on it!”
The bird art masterpiece. (I decided to keep some of the birds in the package for future crafts because they were just too cute not to. 😉 )
Yet another fun assortment of crafts from DoodleBug Busy Bag! My girls were thrilled with the amount of butterfly-related activities and the bird nest was a huge win as well. Fun stuff!
