Let’s see what’s in the July 2020 Excavating Adventures box!
Everything was shipped in a small white box via First Class Mail.
A peek inside!
The theme we received was “Gemstone Journey”! — An information card featured images of all the gemstones we could expect to find, along with a guide to each item in the box and how they’re to be utilized on our excavating adventure.
Excavation Tin
This is where the magic happens! — All of the gemstones are hidden inside the hardened sand(?) in this small metal tin.
Tools
To help you “unearth” the gems, you’ll use a wooden digging tool to slowly scrape away the hardened sand until the treasures are revealed. The brush will help wipe away any loosened sand around the gems as you dig. You’ll use the wet wipe to clean your specimens, and the magnifying glass to get a closer look at each one.
Plastic Collector’s Box
Once all of the gemstones have been found, you can store them all in this handy collector’s box (along with additional items below).
Trading Cards
You’ll learn interesting facts about each gemstone with this set of colorful trading cards. Each one has helpful information about every stone in your new collection.
Binder Sheet
They even include a plastic binder sheet to hold all of the trading cards.
Cardboard Display Box
If you’d like, you can pick out your favorite gemstone and display it on its own in the cardboard display box above.
Excavating Adventures Passport & Sticker
Once your adventure is complete, you can place the “Gemstone Journey” sticker on your Excavating Adventures Passport!
Time to excavate!
We placed the tin inside of the shipping box to contain the mess and started to dig away.
After a bit of digging, the top of a gemstone poked out of the sand.
Even more gems! — Although they look so close to the surface, they were really embedded and took a lot of scraping to remove.
Finally, our first treasure is freed!
Both girls took turns digging, scraping, and brushing…
…until all of the gemstones were discovered!
We organized them as best as we could and placed them into the different sections of the collector’s case.
The girls used the trading cards to help identify the gems and learn more about each one.
The cards were then placed into the binder sheet, which would be kept inside the case as well.
Once our adventure was complete, we added the “Gemstone Journey” sticker to our passport!
July’s Excavating Adventures box was such a fun experience for my girls! They were SO excited to dig up their own gemstones and were able to do it all on their own, which was nice. (I did help scrape a bit when I realized it was taking longer than I expected. But only because it was getting close to bedtime. 😉 ) I knew the box was a hit when I noticed the girls still looking at/playing with the gems the following day and asking questions about their own birthstone. It definitely sparked their curiosity! 😀 — Remember, for a limited time, you can save $10 on your first box with coupon code “HAPPYEXCAVATING“!
