Exotic Noods (gotta love the name) is a new subscription box for fans of instant noodles.
Every month, Exotic Noods will send you a package containing four hard-to-find ramen products that can only be found in specialty stores. Varieties can include udon and buckwheat soba noodles, curries, shio soups, special topping bowls, and more.
Subscriptions are $20/month with free shipping.
Let’s see what’s in my May Exotic Noods box!
Everything was shipped in a large Priority Mail box with an Exotic Noods sticker on the side.
A look inside… Noods! There was no info card, so I apologize if I can’t describe these very well.
Paldo Jjajangmen Chajang Noodle – This is a Korean noodle dish made with black soybean sauce. It’s the only item in the box that looks to be vegan (the others have fish ingredients) and I had good intentions of trying it before my review, but… It didn’t happen. 😉
Toyo Suisan Japanese Noodle Bowl – Okay, I have no idea what the actual name of this is, since I can’t read Japanese. I can say that it has 2410mg of sodium — 100% of your recommended daily value. Uh… that can’t be good!
Menraku Japanese Ramen “Shio” – An authentic Japanese ramen soup that’s ready to serve in just 3 minutes. It contains both a flavored garnish powder to cook with the noodles, as well as a seasoning oil packet to add once they’re done. This one looks like the least “intimidating” of the bunch and only(?!) has 85% of your daily salt recommendation.
Ottogi Ramen Bok Ki – Another Korean soup that — judging by the chili peppers adorning the package — is quite spicy. It also contains “beef bone extract”, which you don’t see everyday.
Clearly, Exotic Noods isn’t an ideal subscription for a vegetarian/vegan (me), but for anyone else it’s definitely a convenient way of trying out unique noodle bowls. I do wish they included some sort of info card to help describe/identify the various dishes, but it’s not a huge deal. Hardcore instant noodle fans probably don’t need an explanation… A spoon/fork/pair of chopsticks will probably suffice. 😉
