Let’s see what’s in the October 2015 Flaviar Whiskey Tasting Box!
The box was packed nice and securely (with staples!) and shipped all the way from Slovenia.
The actual Tasting Box was nestled snugly inside the outer box.
I was quite impressed with the overall presentation and unique packaging.
Each whiskey is presented in its own individually labeled 45ml flask. But don’t be stingy — this package is designed for a tasting party of 3 people. Invite some friends over!
Detailed tasting instructions were included, as well as additional information about the monthly subscription.
As you can see from their “motto” above, Flaviar isn’t your typical snooty liquor of the month club. 😉
Since I rarely drink alcohol and don’t know a thing about whiskey, I’m just going to paraphrase the descriptions and tasting notes from the info sheet. Cool? Cool.
Writer’s Tears Irish Whiskey – This is (obviously) an Irish whiskey that’s traditionally made from a mixture of malted and unmalted barley which is distilled in a copper pot still. It features a pale yellow gold color, an aroma of sweet corn/banana/pencil shavings(?!)/bourbon, a smooth flavor with notes of honey and apples, and a medium/warm finish.
Amrut Indian Single Malt – An Indian whisky that features a golden yellow color, licorice/bourbon aroma, sweet barley-oak flavor, and sweet/dry finish with notes of cream toffee.
Nikka Yoichi 10 Year Old Japanese Whisky – An amber gold Japanese whisky with an aroma of apples and apricot, a complex vanilla/tobacco/orange/mint flavor, and a fruity/oaky finish.
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban Scotch Whisky – From the Glenmorangie distillery near Tain, Scotland, this whisky boasts a sunlit rose gold color, a mint/chocolate/tangerine/orange/sandalwood/walnut flavor aroma, a mint chocolate/walnut flavor with notes of orange, and a long-lasting finish with dark chocolate, mint, and sweet orange.
Santis Cask Strength Peated Whisky – A dark amber colored whisky with an aroma of apple-wood smoke, a malty sweet flavor with hints of vanilla/wild berries/prunes, and an oaky, bitter finish.
Flaviar is a great subscription box for anyone looking to experience a variety of different brands and flavors of spirits from the comfort of their home. The presentation was top notch and the information booklet/tasting guide was detailed, thorough, and easy to understand (for the whisky newbies like me). Overall, an impressive subscription!

Anyone who has left this service a good review is fooled by smoke and mirrors.
This service is all pretty packaging and no substance. My introductory order took 6 weeks to arrive and Flaviar had GROSSLY mis-represented the quantity of whiskey I was getting.
The tasting packs are 45ml each for 3 “bottles”. Even if a full bottle of each of these whiskies averages $80 (which I know for a fact some of them are significantly lower than that), 135 ml is worth $16 tops. Not $60.
On top of all of that, it took SIX WEEKS for this crappy product to arrive.
Save time. Save money. Find a good liquor store with a knowledgeable staff and get your recommendations that way. It would be a better value than this crappy service by literally a factor of 5.
