Time for another GlobeIn review!
If you’re not aware, GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box that features handcrafted goods by artisans around the world. Each month features a new theme with products supplied by various artisans.
GlobeIn helps to bring income and exposure to small artists, while introducing you to beautiful pieces of their culture. Many of the products included are eco-friendly, fairly traded, and/or organic. Subscriptions are $35/month (shipping included), or less with multi-month commitments.
Let’s see what’s inside the August 2015 GlobeIn box!
The box was a lot larger this month, which would have really made me curious what was inside if I hadn’t already seen spoilers.
A peek inside — Lots of pink!
I was surprised to see an info booklet, since it’s usually not included for early review boxes.
Inside was photos and info about all of the products, as well as a few useful “laundry hacks” on the last page. Oh yeah — this month’s box is laundry themed! (It’s not as boring as it sounds.)
Upcycled Laundry Bag Cambodia ($25) – Okay, this bag is HUGE. — As you can see, it barely fit into my lightbox (which is pretty big). It measures 22.5 inches wide x 21.5 inches tall and is made of recycled cement bags. That said, it’s super sturdy and can fit a LOT of clothes.
Wool Dryer Balls (Set of 3) Kyrgyzstan ($15) – We’ve gotten dryer balls in other subscription boxes and my husband swears he didn’t see any difference in drying time or softness. That said, I think we only used one or two small balls per load. These ones are a lot larger and there are 3, so maybe we’ll try again? Although I’m not crazy about the fact that they’re made from wool (as a vegan I’d never purchase them on my own), I would much rather use these than chemical fabric softeners.
Organic Cotton Bag India ($2.50) – There was also an incredibly soft organic cotton pouch included to hold the dryer balls. So, so soft!
Soap Nuts Sampler Nepal ($2) – I’ve also gotten these in past subscription boxes. Soap nuts are an all natural alternative to laundry detergent. Just pop them in the washer (in the included pouch) and launder your clothes as usual. The nuts release a natural sudsing detergent (saponin) when in contact with water resulting in chemical-free laundry!
Palm Leaf Basket Mexico ($12) – One of these handwoven baskets are included in each month’s box. They’re made of discarded palm leaves and can take up to 6 hours to hand-weave. The colors are sent at random and I think I actually got this exact same one last month. Ah well. It’s a nice color, so no biggie.
Another fun box from GlobeIn! Okay, maybe not fun, but very practical/useful. 😉
