GlobeIn time. — June’s box is a great kick-off to summer featuring a fun “Picnic” theme!
If you’re not aware, GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box that features handcrafted goods by artisans around the world. Each month features a new theme with products supplied by various artisans.
GlobeIn helps to bring income and exposure to small artists, while introducing you to beautiful pieces of their culture. Many of the products included are eco-friendly, fairly traded, and/or organic. Subscriptions are $40/month (shipping included), or less with multi-month commitments. — You can save 25% on your first month with any 3-month or longer subscription with coupon code “WELCOME“.
In addition to their standard Artisan Box, they also offer a smaller Benefit Basket for just $19.95/month. Every Benefit Basket includes one artisan-made item, along with a handwoven palm leaf basket. (You can see June’s Benefit Basket review here.)
Let’s see what’s inside the June 2016 GlobeIn Artisan box!
The box!
A peek inside.
A little info booklet featured full color photos and background information on all of the products included in the box, as well as the artisans who created them.
Peace Picnic Blanket Cambodia ($30) – I was excited when I saw the spoiler for this item and even happier when I saw it in person. This neat picnic blanket is made with upcycled bags on one side and a soft plaid fabric on the other. It was crafted in Cambodia by Peace Handicrafts, who helps provide employment to the deaf, disabled, and underprivileged of the region. It’s a nice size and perfect for stashing in your car for a spur of the moment picnic (or toddlers to sit on while you try to photograph it in the kitchen. 😉 ). I think it’s one of my favorite GlobeIn items to date!
Neem Wood Travel Cutting Board India ($15) – I think you really have to see/feel this cutting board in person to really appreciate it. It’s hand-carved from neem wood and is beautifully sanded & finished. The surface & edges are incredibly smooth to the touch and it’s surprisingly lightweight for a chunk of wood. 😉 The info card suggests using it as a cheese board, for making sandwiches, or placing fruit upon.
Color Travel Cup India ($12) – This pretty hand-painted travel cup was crafted by a group of artisans outside of Moradabad, India. It’s made of stainless steel, making it perfect for tossing into a picnic basket without having to worry about breakage.
Palm Leaf Bottle Basket Mexico ($12) – Instead of the traditional round GlobeIn basket, subscribers were able to opt for this picnic-themed bottle basket for June’s box. It’s woven the same way as the original baskets, but is designed to hold a bottle of wine, water, or your picnicking beverage of choice.
I’m really happy with the items in this month’s GlobeIn box. The blanket is absolutely my favorite item and one of the coolest things I’ve gotten in a GlobeIn box to date. Everything else just felt like bonus items. 😉 The total retail value this month was an impressive $69. Nice!
