My September 2016 GlobeIn Benefit Basket is here!
If you’re not aware, GlobeIn is a monthly subscription box that features handcrafted goods by artisans around the world. Each month features a new theme with products supplied by various artisans. GlobeIn helps to bring income and exposure to small artists, while introducing you to beautiful pieces of their culture. Many of the products included are eco-friendly, fairly traded, and/or organic. Subscriptions are $40/month (shipping included), or less with multi-month commitments.
In addition to their standard Artisan Box, they also offer a smaller Benefit Basket for just $19.95/month. Every Benefit Basket includes one artisan-made item, along with a handwoven palm leaf basket. — For a limited time, you can save $7 on your first month of a 3-month Benefit Basket subscription when you use coupon code “TRYBENEFIT“.
Let’s see what’s inside the September 2016 GlobeIn Benefit Basket!
The green GlobeIn box.
A peek inside. Once again, the square sticker that would usually be on the outside of the box was placed on the inside lid.
As always, a tri-fold info card included a little background on the featured item, as well as a few photos of it “in action”.
GlobeIn Signature Palm Leaf Basket Oaxaca, Mexico ($12) – All GlobeIn Benefit Basket shipments include a handwoven basket made of discarded palm leaves. These are woven entirely by hand and can take hours to complete. I think this is the same pink/red color that I received last month, but I like it.
Block Print Pouch by Matr Boomie India ($20) – Matr Boomie is an organization that helps create employment opportunities for the disadvantaged. This block print pouch was made by artisans in India, who have learned this labor-intensive skill despite their less than ideal living conditions. Wood blocks are carved with ornate patterns which could take days to complete. Next, the blocks pressed into wet dye and applied to the fabric multiple times with great precision. Finally, they wash or boil the fabric to allow the final color to surface. The finished pouch measures 9.75″ x 8.25″ and comes complete with a funky tassel on the zipper. Subscribers could have received 1 of 3 colors — turquoise, royal blue, or light blue. (I was actually hoping for light blue, so I’m happy!)
If you’d like to sign up for the GlobeIn Benefit Basket, you can use coupon code “TRYBENEFIT” to save $7 off your first month’s box with a purchase of a 3-month subscription!
