Everything was shipped in a small (but heavy!) box and delivered via FedEx.
A peek inside! — November’s selection was “Royal Riviera Pears” and included 12 pieces of the freshly picked fruit.
According to the information card enclosed, Royal Riviera Pears can be traced back to 19th century France and were brought to Oregon’s Rogue Valley in 1897. The sweet & juicy fruit became the foundation of Harry & David’s Fruit of the Month Club gifts when they first started shipping them across country over 75 years ago and are still the most popular item they harvest today.
I love having a steady supply of fresh fruit in the house and these pears looked so nice stacked inside of my pretty pink stoneware bowl. — Lovely to look at, tasty to eat. 🙂
To determine if the pears are ripe, you’ll need to apply gentle pressure to the flesh at the base of the stem. If it yields slightly, it’s good to go! Once ripe, they should stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
After doing the ripeness test, I found that my pears weren’t quite ready to be eaten. While I wait, I’ll be researching different ways of enjoying them. I normally just eat them “as is”, but I might try to make a pear crisp by tweaking a peach crisp mix I received in a different subscription box last month. Yum!
