March 2017 Holly Journals review time!
If you haven’t heard, Holly Journals is a monthly subscription box that features a handmade journal with other coordinating treasures to inspire and encourage your journaling habit. Each box will feature a different theme which all of the contents will center around. The highlight of the box will be a beautiful, handmade journal (approximately 7.5″ x 5.5″) with at least 50 pages — 100 front and back. Many different sizes, shapes, colors, and specialty types of paper are used to give these journals their custom, one-of-a-kind look and feel. You’ll also receive a list of journal prompts, a themed book dangle with charms, an embellishment pack, one or more pens, and a bonus surprise.
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.
Subscriptions are $39.95/month with free US shipping. — For a limited time, you can save 10% off for life with coupon code “RB10“!
Let’s see what’s in the March 2017 Holly Journals box!
Everything was shipped in a small brown box with a book-themed Holly Journals sticker on top.
A peek inside!
A special note was included which let subscribers know that this month’s book was a little different from past (and future) boxes. Instead of the regular colorful journals that we’re used to, they decided to shake things up a bit and go a completely different way for March’s book. (You’ll see. 😉 )
An info card revealed the theme for this month’s box — “Book Lover’s Journal” — and listed all of the items included inside.
As always, the book itself was wrapped in paper that fit the theme and sealed with a sticker.
The Journal
As the note above stated, this month’s journal was a little different than past boxes. It was actually designed to be a book journal to log all the books you read, have read, and hope to read. Cool!
Don’t worry — the book was still full of neat little details… Like these decorative metal corners on the cover!
Famous book-related quotes were also scattered throughout.
Many of the pages were duplicates of the one above, which gave you a place to record various details of any given book. There were plenty of blank (lined) pages to add additional thoughts and feelings on each title.
More lines & quotes. 🙂
The color scheme was pretty monochromatic and mostly consisted of various shades of brown/cream.
The final spread featured a few pages torn from a dictionary, as well as an envelope for holding important book-related things. 😉
Journal Prompts
While designed to be a book log, there’s also plenty of space in the journal to record your thoughts on books in general. This handy list of prompts was provided to give you specific ideas of what to write about.
Fountain Pen & 2 Ink Cartridges
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an actual fountain pen let alone used one, so needless to say, I’m a bit clueless as to how it works. Thankfully, Holly included info on where to find helpful videos on YouTube so I’ll be fountain pen-ing like a pro in no time. 😉
Embellishment Pack
March’s embellishment pack was tucked into an envelope that was sealed with a red wax… seal. Inside were a variety of labels and stickers to add even more personality to the pages of your journal/book log.
Journal Jewelry
This month’s “journal bling” featured two old school keys, along with a few other small charms. I’ve always loved the look of antique/vintage keys. So much cooler looking than today’s boring ones. 😉
Hand-Crafted Wood Bookmark
This is a really neat handcrafted wooden bookmark, but the more I look at it the more it reminds me of bacon. Ha! Based on the grain, I believe it’s made from 5 different pieces of wood and I’m curious how they do it since it looks seamless.
Kirkland Signature Gourmet Coffee & Coffee Crave Candies
Also included were a sample of 100% Columbian dark roast coffee and a few latte & mocha flavored candies to enjoy while you read (or write!).
While I didn’t quite enjoy March’s Holly Journals box as much as others, I do think it was cool (and brave 😉 ) that they did something a little different this time re: the book log. The bonus items fit the bookish theme perfectly, as always. 🙂 — Remember, for a limited time you can save 10% off for life with coupon code “RB10“!
