May 2017 Holly Journals review time!
If you haven’t heard, Holly Journals is a monthly subscription box that features a handmade journal with other coordinating treasures to inspire and encourage your journaling habit. Each box will feature a different theme which all of the contents will center around. The highlight of the box will be a beautiful, handmade journal (approximately 7.5″ x 5.5″) with at least 50 pages — 100 front and back. Many different sizes, shapes, colors, and specialty types of paper are used to give these journals their custom, one-of-a-kind look and feel. You’ll also receive a list of journal prompts, a themed book dangle with charms, an embellishment pack, one or more pens, and a bonus surprise.
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.
Subscriptions are $39.95/month with free US shipping. They also offer a mini box for $23.95. — For a limited time, you can save $4 on your first box with coupon code “4ROSE“!
Let’s see what’s in the May 2017 Holly Journals box!
Everything was shipped in a small brown box with a Holly Journals sticker on top.
A peek inside!
An info card revealed the theme for this month’s box — “Wanderlust” — and listed all of the items included inside. There was also a note from Holly with a few suggestions on how to utilize May’s journal.
The book itself was wrapped in letter/postcard themed paper and sealed with an airplane sticker.
The Journal
May’s journal was just what you’d think a “Wanderlust” themed book should be. The cover design featured overlapping passport stamps with the word “Travel” in the center. As always, the book consisted of at least 50 2-sided pages of various paper textures, sizes, and colors.
Unlike last month’s pastel color scheme, May’s was more primary color focused which goes well with the theme. Inspirational travel quotes were sprinkled throughout the book.
Tickets!
I don’t travel nearly as much as I’d like to, so that quote is really speaking to me. Like, SHOUTING at me. 😉
As always, there’s a nice mix of both printed/textured and plain lined paper for recording your thoughts.
I love how there are always a few tiny envelopes included to tuck little treasures inside that you can look forward to rediscovering years after completing the journal.
The last page gave some great suggestions of must-take photos to snap on your next trip.
Journal Prompts
A helpful list of travel-themed journal prompts was included to give you ideas of what to write about.
Pens
3 different writing instruments were included this month. — A white gel pen, small red pencil, and blue ballpoint pen with “Enjoy the Journey” printed on the side.
Embellishment Pack
May’s embellishment pack included a variety of neat stamps, paper clips, and stickers to add even more personality to the pages of your journal.
Journal Jewelry
Aww… How cute is that tiny passport charm?! Adorable. 🙂 Custom “journal jewelry” is always included in each box and is designed to hang from the spiral binding of your journal.
Custom Map Necklace
Ahh! I LOVE this necklace! I was not expecting such a cool personalized item in this box, so it was definitely a fun surprise. The brass colored necklace features a round pendant displaying a tiny map of my current city. I edited my photo to remove the location for privacy purposes, but I think it’s such a great, unique piece!
Altoids Smalls
It’s always good to have a pack of mints on hand when you travel. My husband buys these to keep in his car for us because for whatever reason, these “Smalls” are gelatin-free (vegan), while the regular sized Altoids are not. No idea why.
I really enjoyed this month’s travel-themed Holly Journals box! I keep reminding my husband that we need to figure out where to take the girls this summer and this just made me even more antsy to start planning. 😉 — Remember, for a limited time you can save $4 on your first box with coupon code “4ROSE“!
