Joe’s Brew Club is a new subscription box for coffee lovers. Not only do they send you a fresh supply of high quality whole beans, but they throw in a few snacks too!
Joe’s Brew Club is based in New Mexico and it’s also where their beans are roasted — over 5,000 feet above sea level. This allows for a slower roast and more flavorful results. (I’m not at all hip to the science of all that, but I’ll take their word on it!) The beans themselves are sourced from various regions including Africa, South & Central America, and Indonesia.
Along with the beans, boxes also include fresh baked biscotti and chocolates. Their site only listed biscotti when I agreed to do a review, so I was pleasantly surprised to find the (vegan-friendly!) chocolates in there too. Score!
Joe’s Brew Club subscriptions are $34.99 per month — but are currently on sale for just $29.99. Multi-month plans are available at a discount and shipping is always free to the US (Canada is $5.99 more).
Okay, let’s check out the brew!
First, the box itself. Tasteful and to the point… I like it.
A peek inside. It smelled just as enticing as it looked.
There wasn’t an info card included, however they did send a nice handwritten note with the box. Personal touches like that are always a plus. Oh yeah, I should probably note that Joe’s Brew Club is a family owned and operated business. Clearly, they’re passionate about what they do!
Red Rock Roasters Costa Rica Single Origin – These beans hail from Central America, where they were grown in rich, high-altitude volcanic soil. It’s said to be silky, well-balanced, and have a chocolatey aroma. I’m horrible at describing coffee, so I can only say that it was “good”. (Hey, it’s a lot better than “bad”, right?)
I used my new Aeropress, which I still haven’t 100% figured out yet. The mechanics I get, I just need to find my ideal bean to water ratio and brew time. I’m so used to the simplicity (laziness) of my Keurig. Baby steps…
The Chocolate Cartel 73% Dark Chocolate Bar – A good sized (2.7 ounce) dark chocolate bar that just happens to be vegan. Woohoo! This is made with 73% cacao and includes a hint of spices to give it a little kick.
Biscotti – Four different flavors of Italian biscotti were included: Blueberry Vanilla, Double Chocolate Espresso, Chocolate Cherry Amaretto, and Classic Almond. They sound delicious, but since I’m sure they contain eggs/dairy, I’ll be passing them along to my mom, who’ll more than happily take them off my hands.
The Chocolate Cartel Dark Chocolate Espresso Beans – Oooh! More vegan-friendly chocolates! These espresso beans are coated in thick dark chocolate and then dusted with cocoa powder for a truly indulgent treat. Mmm!
What a great box! I love that it included both coffee and treats to accompany the brew. Of course the fact that the chocolates happened to be vegan certainly didn’t hurt either. 😉
