Ipsy is a beauty subscription that sends subscribers a monthly “Glam Bag” full of cosmetics and beauty accessories. This is my third month with them (you can see my other reviews here).
When you sign up, you take a “beauty quiz” to determine your likes/dislikes, makeup preferences, etc. This helps Ipsy learn which products to send in your Glam Bag. Each bag will contain 4-6 full sized and deluxe sample sized products from top cosmetics brands.
Ipsy is only $10/month and offers a nice rewards program that gives you points for reviewing your products and referring friends to join. Points can be redeemed for “bonus items” in your next bag. Awesome!
Ipsy sends a lot of different variations each month, so you’ll see that other subscribers got totally different products than you did. Hopefully your beauty quiz answers match you with products that most meet your needs… Did they do a good job matching me up with mine? Let’s see!
The theme for June’s bag is “Pretty in Paradise” and focuses on summery, beach-friendly products.
The bag – The bag this month is designed by Rebecca Minkoff. I really don’t know crap diddly about fashion-y stuff, but I guess she’s a big deal? This is a decent enough bag, but in all honesty, I’m not a fan of the print. In fact, I think it’s pretty darn fugly. But hey, I’m no fashionista. 😉
Skinn Dimitri James Olive & Enzyme Cleanser – I wasn’t too thrilled to see a cleanser, since I’m loyal to my current cleansing routine… But then I saw that this is also a makeup remover & deep cleansing mask. Yay! I’m all about using a mask while I bathe, so this will totally get used. The reviews on Amazon all mention how gentle it is on the skin, which makes sense since it contains lots of natural plant extracts. (Amazon Price: roughly $12.25 for this 2 oz. size)
Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray – I was hoping to get this when I saw the spoilers! I’ve been trying to wear my hair in messy waves (er, beach waves?) lately and have just used a conditioning spray. I keep meaning to try a spray like this and now I can. Thanks, Ipsy! This can be used on damp or dry hair too! (Amazon Price: roughly $4.50)
Be a Bombshell Lash Out Mascara – Everyone in Ipsy-land is complaining about the smell of this mascara, so I was curious how bad it actually was… Welp, it’s bad. Like chemicals and burning rubber bad. The reviewers who did like it despite the smell seemed to be happy with the performance. Unfortunately, I’m super sensitive about funky smells, so I think this’ll be going into the trade pile. (Amazon Price: $11.49)
NYX Butter Gloss in “Apple Strudel” – This is a cruelty-free lip gloss that’s supposed to “melt on your lips”. The reviews on Ipsy all seem to be pretty positive, but I’ve never been a big fan of gloss (or anything besides clear balms). It seems nice enough, but I’m still thinking it’ll go into the trade pile. We’ll see… (Amazon Price: $5.99)
Jessie’s Girl Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – I’ve never heard of Jessie’s Girl, but I’ll give it a try. This is a liquid eyeliner with an ultra precise tip that allows you to draw a line as thin as one millimeter. I have zero skills when it comes to the whole cat eyes thing, but that doesn’t stop me from wearing the look all the dang time. Maybe this’ll help me totally nail the technique once and for all (not likely, but maaaybe.) (Retail Price: $6.99)
The total of all the items in my June Ipsy bag comes to roughly $41. Crazypants! This is definitely one of the most valuable subscription “boxes” out there. Even if I don’t always need/use everything I get in my bag, the ones that I do use are always worth more than the $10 I paid for the month. Love it!

After seeing this one and your other two reviews, I decided to give Ipsy a try. It definitely seems like you are getting your money’s worth. I agree that this month’s bag isn’t the prettiest, but I love getting little bags because I use them for more than just makeup.

I love Ipsy. I was sooooooo undecided and finally subscribed back in December. June was my seventh bag with them and I’m happy to say I really like the stuff I’ve been getting lately. The first couple of months I almost cancelled because I got some nice stuff but in colors I would never ever use….bright red lipstick, bright fushia lip gloss, blue eye liner, etc…. But lately I’ve gotten more appropriate colors and have loved pretty much everything. I was hoping to get the cleanser you got…but didn’t. I got a brow pencil and a perfume sample, and then the beach spray, mascara and gloss that you got…. My mascara was completely dried out, but from the sounds of it, I didn’t miss out on much there! Love reading your reviews….you and I are a lot alike with makeup! I don’t wear much either…..and have loved getting stuff I might otherwise never purchase through Ipsy.
It’s definitely fun to try new things for such a small cost! I resisted signing up for a long time too, but finally figured I should try it… Even if I only use a couple things in the bag, it’s still worth it for $10. Plus, more “fun” mail every month! 😉
