Kekao Box is a subscription box that delivers a selection of premium craft chocolate bars to your door on a monthly basis.
Each box will include 4-5 full sized premium handcrafted chocolate bars from makers located throughout the world. All of the bars featured are made ethically using the purest, most carefully selected ingredients. Due to the fair prices offered to the cacao growers and the small-batch hand-crafted process, these chocolate bars are more expensive — with most bars selling anywhere from $4 to $20 each. Kekao Box promises to always meet or exceed the monthly cost of the subscription with the total value of the bars sent.

Let’s see what’s in my February 2020 Kekao Box!
Everything was shipped in a brown box with the Kekao Box logo stamped on top.
A peek inside!
There wasn’t a detailed info card, but they did include a handy guide on how to properly taste/appreciate fine chocolate.
All of the chocolate was tucked into its own little burlap sack.
The bars!
Pump Street Chocolate Sourdough & Sea Salt Bar ($11.99)
When it comes to dark chocolate, I prefer bars with some sort of added ingredient that gives it more of crispy/crunchy texture. This sourdough & sea salt bar did NOT disappoint! It’s made by Pump Street, an award-winning bakery in the village of Orford in the United Kingdom. The bar combines smooth Ecuadorian chocolate with crispy sourdough crumbs and a touch of sea salt. The combination may sound a bit odd, but it was absolutely delicious. 😀
Ranger Dark Milk Chocolate Bar ($10)
I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was the only non-vegan bar in the entire box. Made with just four simple ingredients — organic cacao, organic sugar, milk, and cocoa butter — this bar is great for fans of both milk and dark chocolate. It’s handcrafted in Portland, Oregon and has tasting notes of malt & butter.
Amedei Toscano Red Dark Chocolate Bar ($10.98)
I should have completely unwrapped this bar for more photos because the inside is so pretty! (To avoid waste I don’t like to open too many food items at one time.) Handcrafted in Italy, Toscano Red consists of 70% dark chocolate blended with colorful red & pink bits of dried strawberries, cherries, and raspberries. It sounds absolutely delicious and I can’t wait to try it!
Domori Criollo 70% Ocumare 77 ($10.99)
The final bar was also handcrafted in Italy. It’s made from Ocumare 77, a rare sub-clone of Criollo cocoa recognizable by the increased roughness of the cacao pod. Ocumare is very rare because the plant has often empty bean inside the fruit. This bar — consisting of only pure cocoa mass & cane sugar — has notes of apricot jam, citrus, dried fruit, and cream.
I really enjoyed my first Kekao Box experience and was surprised to find that 3 out of the 4 bars were actually vegan-friendly. 🙂 There was a nice assortment of different flavors/textures, which was much appreciated (especially by someone who finds “plain” dark chocolate a bit boring). Using prices I found on various websites, the total value of all 4 bars was $43.96 — well over the cost of the monthly subscription price. 🙂 — Remember, for a limited time you can save $5 on your first month with coupon code ROSE5!
