Loot Crate is a monthly subscription box for fans of gamer/geek culture. Every month you’ll get a box packed with 6-8 items that can include toys, gear, snacks, hardware, art, accessories, and more! (They’ve even been sending limited edition Loot Crate exclusive items!) Boxes are $19.37/month (price includes shipping), or less with longer subscriptions.
The theme for September’s box was “Galactic” and was rumored to include products relating to Star Wars, Firefly, Star Trek, and more.
What’s Inside September’s #LootCrate
As always, there was a fun Loot Crate mini mag and a collectible button featuring this month’s theme.
Star Trek Tribble Exclusive Looter Edition by Quantum Mechanix – I don’t know all that much about Star Trek, but I have heard of Tribbles. From what I understand, they were basically little balls of fur that reproduced a bit too much. I dunno. This guy is a Loot Crate exclusive and has a different color fur than the ones I found online. (Amazon Price: $6.29 for the non-exclusive version)
Alien Re-Action Figure by Funko – My husband made me watch “Alien” for the first time last year, so I was familiar with this Ripley character. I was kinda hoping we’d get The Alien though… He looked a lot cooler and had moving teeth & glow in the dark brains. Ah well. (Amazon Price: $9.99)
Firefly Bank Robbery Money by Quantum Mechanix – I don’t know anything about Firefly, so this item is totally lost on me. It does feel and smell like real currency though, which is neat. Hopefully I can trade/sell this to a Firefly fan who can actually appreciate it. (Amazon Price: $14.75 for similar item)
Firefly Vinyl “Mal” Exclusive Action Figure by Funko – The box says “Mystery Mini”, but I guess they all have Captain Malcom “Mal” Reynolds from Firefly inside. Not much of a mystery. I’ll be saving this for an actual fan of the show as well. (Amazon Price: $9.95 for other non-exclusive characters shown on the box)
Dark Horse Comics Bonus Digital Loot – A code on the back of this card gives you access to 3 free digital comics. I have zero interest in this, so if anyone wants the code just comment below and it’s yours. (Retail Value: ??)
Star Wars Exclusive Retro Arcade Magnet – I guess this is a Star Wars/Asteroids(?) mashup. I don’t know if my fridge is nerdy enough to pull this off. We’ll see… (Retail Value: $2?)
Pop Rocks Candy – When I was a kid I thought these were the coolest things ever. Fizzing candy?! The. Coolest. Sadly, I just discovered that they contain lactose so I won’t be able to partake in the fizzy fun. (Amazon Price: Roughly $0.82)
There was also supposed to be a 9″x27″ Star Wars poster, but I didn’t receive it in my box.
Since I’m not a big science fiction fan (or even a small one), I wasn’t all that excited about this month’s Loot Crate. My husband was hoping for more Star Wars and Star Trek items (he likes the post-Tribble series), so he was kinda bummed about all the Firefly stuff. That said, the box still a great value — roughly $43.80 without including the digital content or exclusiveness of some of the items. Nice!
