MakrBox is a new subscription service that delivers useful, handmade products to your door every month. They promise to provide 100% artisan goods that are “durable, sustainable & useful.”
Each month will feature 2-3 household products created by “makers” (real people who create handcrafted goods with a purpose), craftsmen, and designers.
I hadn’t seen any “spoilers”, so when my box arrived, I was excited to see what was inside. Let’s take a look…
Paper Hammer Hand-Stitched Concept Journal – This is a cute little notebook/journal. It’s hand-stitched and bound using high quality recycled paper. It has 32 ruled pages and a bright red binding. Paper Hammer is a Washington-based retailer that proudly uses 19th, 20th, and 21st century production techniques to make their beautiful artisan goods. (Retail Price: $10.00)
Abeego Food Storage Alternative – I’ve never seen anything like this before… Abeego is a Canadian-made, all natural alternative to plastic wrap. It’s made of hemp, cotton, beeswax, tree resin, and jojoba oil. You just wrap one of the sheets around your leftovers and the pressure and heat of your hands will mold the sheet around your food. The sheets will stiffen when cool to hold the shape. To clean, simply hand wash in cold water in eco-friendly soap and let air dry. With proper care your Abeego sheets can last over a whole year! This package contains 3 reusable “flats” in a range of sizes — 7″ (small), 10″ (medium), and 13″ (large). (Retail Price: $15.00)
San Juan Sea Salt – This is a nice “finishing salt” from San Juan Island, Washington. It’s solar evaporated and hand harvested — the production is completely reliant on the sun. I don’t know much (anything) about sea salt, but that sounds impressive to me. 😉 This glass jar contains one ounce of sea salt. (Retail Price: $5.00)
So that’s the MakrBox! What do you think? Since I wasn’t sure what to expect, I wasn’t overly thrilled with the contents, but I also wasn’t totally disappointed. I think I was kinda hoping for a “fun” item. Everything included was very practical (which is what they strive for), but there really wasn’t an item that I was all “Woah! This is SO COOL!!” over.
That said, I do think the Makr Box is a great concept. I like that all of the products were unique and lovingly handcrafted.
MakrBoxes are $29/month, plus $5 shipping. Want to save $5 off your first box? (Take that, shipping!) Just use promo code “ROSEBUDS” at checkout!
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any other way. All opinions are my own.
