New Hobby Box is a unique subscription box that sends you a starter kit to learn a new hobby or skill every month.
Each box will contain all of the materials you need to get you on your way to learning a new skill and/or discovering your next favorite hobby. Past boxes have featured the art of brewing iced coffee & loose leaf tea, survival skills, and building a portable USB charger (January’s box). The boxes will include everything you need to get started and full tutorials can be found on their site to help you along the way.
Subscriptions are $29.99/month or less with multi-month commitments. (Months can be easily skipped if you’re not interested in that particular hobby/skill.) — For a limited time, you can save $3 off any 3-month subscription or more with coupon code “CRATEJOY“!
Let’s see what’s in the December 2015 New Hobby Box!
The box!
A look inside! — December’s box was all about candle making!
There wasn’t an actual info card, but they did include a link to use for further instructions on how to use the kit. The tutorial was really well written, had plenty of photos, and was easy to follow — which was definitely a plus!
Soy Wax – A big ol’ 2-pound bag of soy wax was included. Enough to make plenty of lovely candles (and even some not-so-lovely “practice” ones).
Disposable Mold & Wicks – A paper container was provided to serve as a mold for your first “practice” candle, as well as 5 wicks (in the baggie).
Dye Blocks – Four blocks of dye were included — canary yellow, lavender, red, and brown.
Fragrance – Three different fragrances were provided to scent your candles: Hazelnut Coffee, Apple & Maple Bourbon, and Fudge.
New Hobby Box provided enough supplies to make 5 large candles with extra for experimenting. I *should* be including photos of the end results here, but making these candles has been on my to-do list for almost 2 months now and I felt bad about putting this review off for so long. I’ll definitely be sure to update this post when I finally manage to carve out enough time to devote to this project. Pinky swear!
Despite not actually making the candles yet, I do like the concept of New Hobby Box and how it introduces you to a new skill/hobby every month. I also appreciate that they allow you the option to skip a month if that particular hobby doesn’t interest you at all. The theme for the upcoming March box is “Indoor Gardening”, which looks pretty cool. 🙂
Remember, for a limited time you can save $3 off any 3-month subscription or more with coupon code “CRATEJOY“!
Disclosure: I received this box for review purposes. I was not compensated in any way. All opinions are my own. Post may contain affiliate and/or referral links.

Do they sell past boxes?

I just scoured their website to see if they do, but didn’t see anything leaning towards yes. Kind of a shame, really!

Hello, Angela! I’m a co-founder of New Hobby Box. We just finished redesigning the site. So now that we have done that, our next step is going to be to have past boxes up. We will hopefully have this up and running in a couple months. Once we do we will notify people via social media or our newsletter. So if you are interested, feel free to follow us however you prefer. Thank you! 🙂
