OwlCrate is a brand new subscription box for fans of young adult novels. Every month will be centered around a different theme and contain not only a newly published hardcover book, but a handful of other fun book-related goodies as well.
OwlCrate is run by a cute couple from Vancouver, BC who are self proclaimed “massive book geeks”. They founded this subscription in order to bring together fellow book nerds and spread the magic of the written word throughout the world. It’s their belief that no one is ever too old to enjoy young adult novels and it’s totally acceptable to fall in love with fictional characters. 🙂
OwlCrate subscriptions start at $29.99 USD/month plus shipping, or less with multi-month commitments.
Let the March OwlCrate unboxing begin!
I was super impressed with the box itself… especially being that this is their very first month. The owl prints on the side were such a cute touch.
The note on the inside flap totally reminded me of my 95-year old grandmother, who has been uttering the phrase “Who gives a hoot?” for as long as I can remember.
As noted on the info card above, the theme for March’s box is “Fantasy”. All of the items included in the box were listed on the card, along with brief explanations as to why they were chosen.
“A Darker Shade of Magic” by V.E. Schwab ($18.55) – The featured book explores a world of magicians, cross-dressing pirates, and parallel universes. Not exactly my cup o’ tea, but it does have really high ratings on Amazon and the author has previous works that were equally well-received. I’ll keep this around for the girls to check out when they’re older. OwlCrate also included an exclusive pin given to them by V.E. Schwab. Cool!
A Darker Shade of Magic Poster – This poster is another exclusive item from the author. It features the cover art for the US version of the book on one side, and the UK version on the other. I didn’t measure it (oops), but it’s a pretty good sized poster.
Enchanted Unicorn Bandages ($6.09) – Super cute bandages to use when you “read so hard you get a paper cut”. They’re infused with real unicorn tears for speedy healing. (I’m not too sure what was up with the free prize inside though… A temporary tattoo of a creepy Russian guy? Uhhh….)
Game of Thrones Mystery Mini Vinyl Figure by Funko ($7.31) – I didn’t open this up to see what figure I got cos I’m a nerd and want to keep it sealed. This was sent to celebrate the new season of Game of Thrones beginning on April 12th. There are 24 figures to collect in all, with each measuring about 2 1/2 inches in height.
Craft’ed Magnetic Bookmark Set ($7.33) – Aww! I love these! They’re little paper bookmarks with magnets attached so they stay firmly in place. This set was designed exclusively for OwlCrate, so I guessed on the value (based on similar 3-piece sets in their shop).
What a fun box! OwlCrate did a crazy good job with their debut offering. The packaging was adorable and perfect for a subscription like this and the book and related goodies were ideal for all the self-proclaimed book nerds out there. The value was pretty good too… Roughly $39, not including the exclusive poster and pin.
As of today, it looks like OwlCrate’s April boxes are already sold out, so if you’d like to sign up for May’s box, do it NOW! 😉
