Mary’s Secret Ingredients is a brand new culinary surprise box that helps you to “put some LOVE in your cooking!”.

Mary is the writer behind the food blog “Love — The Secret Ingredient“, where she shares recipes, cooking tips, and more. She launched Mary’s Secret Ingredients to introduce others to some of her favorite artisanal and gourmet goodies. (She’ll also be sharing recipes on her blog which will incorporate the ingredients in the boxes!)

New boxes are released every season with a limited number available. Each box is $25.95 and promises at least $30 worth of products. 10% of their yearly profits will be donated to Feed the Children, an organization that provides food, water, health care, and education to children in need. 🙂

Ivy Kids July Kit Review, Discount Code & Giveaway! Ends 5/13/14

Ivy Kids is a new monthly activity box for children aged 3 through 8. It was founded by a certified early childhood educator, turned stay-at-home mom who had begun creating her own activities in order to entertain and educate her kiddos. She found that when she incorporated characters from books into the activities, her children became more engaged. After making kits for her friends and family, who all seemed to love the concept, Ivy Kids was born.

Each Ivy Kids kit contains more than ten activities, along with a book which all of the activities are based upon. The games, projects, and crafts are all designed to “develop fine and gross motor muscles, build math and literacy skills, encourage reading comprehension, and promote scientific thinking”. All of the materials you’ll need are included right in your kit, as well as instructions and age modifications for each project.

Scrumpt Box Kid’s “Travel Box” Review & Giveaway! Ends 5/28/14

Scrumpt is San Francisco-based company that offers healthy, super fresh lunches* delivered right to your door. They currently offer 3 different products: Scrumpt Lunch Box, Scrumpt Travel Survival Kit, and Scrumpt Snack Box.

*There are 2 different versions of the Lunch box available. One that includes perishables (fruits, veggies, meats, etc.) and is only available in the San Francisco area, and another “basic” box that includes a menu, grocery list, and non-perishables (crackers, nut butters, etc.). The basic Lunch box is available nationwide.

All Scrumpt boxes are curated and approved by a panel of pediatricians and nutritionists, so you can be sure that your kiddo is getting all the nutrition he needs. Lunch boxes are also customizable. You can let them know some of your child’s likes and dislikes, so you won’t receive a box that you’ll have to bribe your kid to eat. 😉

The Scrumpt Snack Box, as well as the Travel Survival Kit, are both available nationwide. The Snack Box ($18.95) is a monthly subscription that contains 12-15 servings of kid-friendly, pediatrician & nutritionist approved snacks. The Travel Survival Kit ($18.95) is a one-time purchase box that includes snacks, activities, and toiletries to help keep your kiddo entertained (and fed!) while on the road.

Once again, my mom neglected to cancel her subscription (woohoo!), so I got a second Citrus Lane box in April (read my first April review) She brought it over last night, so I figured I’d review it today (since it’s already May and all…).

If you’re new to them, Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription for babies/kids aged newborn-5. It’s $29/month (cheaper with longer subs) and includes a nice assortment of toys, books, snacks, toiletries, etc. Sometimes they even include a gift for mom.

This month’s Citrus Lane box included products to pay tribute to Earth Day — as well as Spring in general. Yay, April!

Beanfields is a family owned company with a mission to change the way Americans eat. How? By offering ridiculously good snack chips made with beans & rice! Yep, bean chips. Delicious bean chips.

Thanks to their primary ingredient (uh, beans!), Beanfields chips have twice as much protein and fiber than most “traditional” tortilla chips. They also have up to 37% less fat. Nice!

Oh — The best part? All of Beanfields snacks are 100% vegan & gluten-free! Woohoo! They’re also corn-free, non-GMO, and insanely addictive.

I was recently given an opportunity to try Hail Merry’s Miracle Tarts (an offer I could NOT refuse). I had sampled their (amazing) raw macaroons before, but never the tarts — so I was excited to try ’em!

Hail Merry is a women-owned company that was created in order to help people achieve “higher health” without having to sacrifice decadent snacks and treats. All of Hail Merry‘s products are made with pure, consciously sourced ingredients that are free of many common allergens.

Citrus Lane “Bathtime” Mystery Box Review

Citrus Lane recently offered another special “Mystery Box” for a one-time cost of $29. This time, there were four different box “themes” to choose from: Art, Music, Bath, and Mealtime. Just like past mystery boxes, one item was revealed for each theme — sort of like a teaser — and the rest was to remain a mystery until opened.

For those who may not be aware, Citrus Lane is a monthly subscription for babies/kids aged newborn-5. It’s $29/month (cheaper with longer subs) and includes a nice assortment of toys, books, snacks, toiletries, etc. Sometimes they even include a gift for mom.

This is the third round of mystery boxes that Citrus Lane has offered over the last month or so. The first box was for babies 0-12 months… The second was for 12-24 months… This third one was the first with actual themes instead of age groups.

Ipsy Glam Bag April 2014 Review

Ipsy is a beauty subscription that sends subscribers a monthly “Glam Bag” full of cosmetics and beauty accessories.

When you sign up, you take a “beauty quiz” to determine your likes/dislikes, makeup preferences, etc. This helps Ipsy learn which products to send in your Glam Bag. Each bag will contain 4-6 full sized and deluxe sample sized products from top cosmetics brands.

Ipsy is only $10/month and offers a nice rewards program that gives you points for reviewing your products and referring friends to join. Points can be redeemed for “bonus items” in your next bag. Awesome!

In all honestly, I’ve never really been too into makeup (mainly because I don’t know how to properly apply it), so I was hesitant to try a “beauty” subscription. However, for just $10 a month, I figured it was time to explore the (intimidating) world of makeup. Nerd Block Jr. (Girl) Review

Nerd Block Jr. is a new-ish box that’s curated with goodies for kids from ages 6 to 11 (though it could be enjoyed by anyone, really). It’s a monthly surprise package filled with toys and games that some would consider “nerdy” or geeky. It’s basically a kid-version of the original Nerd Block (which is geared towards adult “nerds”).

Nerd Block Jr. is $13.99/month (plus shipping) and offers boxes specifically for boys or girls. Boxes include toys, games, and collectibles from brands such as Disney, Nintendo, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, My Little Pony, and more.

bluum April 2014 Review & 50% Off Your First Box

bluum is a monthly subscription box for babies & kiddos from birth through age 5. Every box will contain 5 or more products that are responsibly sourced, eco-friendly and often organic.

There used to be monthly “themes”, but they’ve recently moved away from that and instead curate each box based upon your child’s current age in months. bluum also just announced that they’ve joined forces with Stork Stack, so anyone who had a subscription with them (Stork Stack) will now be receiving boxes from bluum instead. Interesting.

Vegan Cupcakes Fancied up with April’s “My Bakers Box”

Happy Easter!

Just thought I’d share the festive cupcakes I made for the occasion using some of the goodies from this month’s My Bakers Box!

These are (homemade!) carrot cake cupcakes with store-bought vanilla frosting. This was actually my first time making carrot cake(s) from scratch and I was really pleased/shocked at how well they turned out.

I used a basic recipe for vegan carrot cake from “How it all Vegan” by Tanya Barnard and Sarah Kramer. I didn’t tweak it at all, except for going the cupcake route rather than a full-sized cake.

I was lazy and used the only canned frosting I had on hand — a Christmas-themed tub that I got on clearance after the holidays. I know, I know… But hey, it IS pastel, so…  [read more…]
