A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed December’s theme: “Diffusing”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
December’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Night Before Christmas Reed Diffuser
- Christmas Cheer Aromatherapy Inhaler
- Smitten Mitten Felt Diffuser
- Winter Woods Diffuser Blend
- Cozy Mason Jar Air Freshener
- Centering Pinewood Roll-On
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.
December’s oils included:
- Pine
- Ho Wood
- Frankincense
- Vanilla Woods
Simply Earth Pine Essential Oil
One quick whiff of pine essential oil is all it takes to transport me back to the Christmases of my past, where the scent of our freshly-cut pine tree filled the house. Needless to say, I’m quite fond of it. 🙂 Pine oil also has a variety of benefits when used in home remedies. It’s great for general deodorizing, cleansing the skin, easing seasonal discomfort, supporting joint health, relaxing muscles, and more.
(Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise™ that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.)
Simply Earth Ho Wood Essential Oil
Ho Wood essential oil is derived from the Cinnamomum camphora plant — a large evergreen tree that grows in Asia. Its properties are similar to the endangered rosewood tree, making it a great alternative to rosewood essential oil. Some of its many uses include promoting immunity, soothing the skin, supporting women’s wellness, calming anxiety, and reducing the appearance of breakouts.
Simply Earth Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense has been used throughout history, with its most notable appearances in the Bible and in ancient Egypt. Back in the day, it was mostly used for incense, treating wounds, and easing arthritis. These days we often use this spicy/woody oil to help with promoting immunity, aiding in digestion, supporting joint function, improving sleep, and more.
Simply Earth Vanilla Woods Essential Oil Blend
The only blend of December’s box, “Vanilla Woods” contains a slightly sweet combination of Peru Balsam essential oil, benzoin (resin from tree bark), and vanilla oleoresin (a semi-solid concentrate made from vanilla extract by removing the solvent). It was designed to be calming, centering, and uplifting.
Felt Mitten Diffuser
Ahhhh! — How stinkin’ cute is this felt mitten-shaped diffuser?! I love that it can be easily hung just about anywhere that needs a little “freshening”: In your car, on a dresser knob/pull, in a closet, or even on your Christmas tree! To use, just place a few drops of your favorite essential oil onto the back of the mitten and you’re good to go. 🙂
Earth & Wood Reed Diffuser
You can easily turn any bottle of essential oil into a mini diffuser with the materials above. Simply remove the original cap from your bottle, replace it with the hallowed out bamboo cap above, then add the diffuser reeds. Couldn’t be easier!
Aromatherapy Inhaler
A plastic aromatherapy inhaler was included as the vessel to hold the oils in the “Christmas Cheer Aromatherapy Inhaler” recipe. Inside is a cotton tube onto which the oils are placed.
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
Smitten Mitten Felt Diffuser
Supplies needed: Mitten Felt Diffuser and 5 drops of Pine Essential Oil.
Okay, this is probably the easiest (and cutest) recipe that Simply Earth has ever created.
Step 1: Place 5 drops of Pine Essential Oil onto the back of the provided felt mitten.
Step 2: Hang felt mitten in your desired location and enjoy its festive aroma. 🙂
Christmas Cheer Aromatherapy Inhaler
Supplies needed: Aromatherapy Inhaler, Pine Essential Oil, and Ho Wood Essential Oil.
The first step requires you to remove the cotton “wick” from the plastic inhaler tube and carefully add the required drops of essential oils onto its surface.
Then simply drop it back into the inhaler, replace the cap, and you’re good to go.
When you’re ready to use it, just twist open and inhale the soothing aroma.
Night Before Christmas Reed Diffuser
Supplies needed: Pine Essential Oil, Vanilla Woods Essential Oil Blend, Ho Wood Essential Oil, Earth & Wood Diffuser Set, and a small glass bottle.
I didn’t have any 15mL bottles on hand, so I used one of the small dropper bottles that comes in the “Big Bonus Box”. I tweaked the recipe a bit so I could get the correct ratios of all 3 oils to fit inside.
Once the oils were inside, I placed the wood cap onto the bottle and added the reeds. The recipe card recommends adding perfumer’s alcohol to help the oil flow up the reeds better, but they were plenty fragrant without it.
Winter Woods Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Vanilla Woods Essential Oil Blend, Pine Essential Oil, Ho Wood Essential Oil, and Frankincense Essential Oil.
The easiest of all the recipes (except the mitten diffuser!), it simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the winter-inspired aroma fill the room.
Winter Woods Master Blend
Every monthly diffuser recipe also comes with instructions for making a “master blend” that gives you a pre-made supply to use as you wish.
Supplies needed: Vanilla Woods Essential Oil Blend, Pine Essential Oil, Ho Wood Essential Oil Blend, Frankincense Essential Oil, and a 5 mL amber glass bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
All you have to do is pour the specified amount of essential oil into the bottle…
…add the provided stickers — and you’re done!
Centering Pinewood Roll-On
Supplies needed: Pine Essential Oil, Ho Wood Essential Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil*, and a 10mL Roll-On Bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
This easy recipe simply involved placing a specified amount of essential oil into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with coconut oil.
Then just replace the cap and carefully position the sticker/label & it’s ready to use!
