I was recently sent a DIY Blush & Eyeshadow Palette Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Magnetic Makeup Compact
All of the beauty items created from this kit can be easily (and cutely!) stored in the magnetic makeup compact above. It can store up to 8 small square cosmetic tins, or 2 larger rectangular tins and 4 small square tins. — The filled compact will be shown at the end of this review. 😉
DIY Mineral Makeup Base
The powdered mineral base above is the “main ingredient” in making your own custom makeup. It’s comprised of 100% safe & natural, skin-friendly ingredients that are light & breathable — so you won’t have to worry about your products looking “caked on”. To use, simply blend with your choice of pigments and/or mica powders to create your own custom shades.
Mica Powder Sample Pack
Twelve little sample packets of mica powder were included to add color and shimmer to your makeup — and to set aside for other DIY recipes like soap and candles! As with the base powder, these are also made of 100% natural ingredients.
Pigment Powder Sample Pack
In addition to the mica powder packets, I also received six samples of pigment powder in various shades. Pigments are the key to getting concentrated matte colors for your makeup. — A little goes a long way!
Almond Oil
Often used as a carrier oil, almond oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. When added to your custom tinted makeup base, it helps to turn it from a loose powder eyeshadow to a more solid/packable version.
Mango Butter
The little container above contains 100% mango butter. It’s a lightweight, non-greasy butter that’s ideal for making DIY skin care products that are easily absorbed and feel great on your skin.
A separate, smaller box held the remaining materials/ingredients.
Beauty Within Essential Oil Blend
“Beauty Within” is an essential oil blend containing a sweet & earthy combination of myrrh, frankincense, rosemary, and lavender essential oils. When creating this blend, Simply Earth chose oils that are packed with skin healing properties to help improve your overall skin health and reduce the signs of aging.
Resilience Essential Oil Blend
Designed to both calm and uplift, “Resilience” features a woodsy/floral blend of ho wood, frankincense, black spruce, and blue tansy essential oil. Its soothing aroma will help you “stay settled throughout the day, bringing harmony and renewed confidence”.
Cosmetic Makeup Tins
Once you’ve crafted your own DIY makeup products, you’ll be able to store them in these adorable little metal tins. The kit included 4 small square tins for eyeshadow, along with 2 rectangular tins for the blush & glow balm.
Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl alcohol is an oil soluble substance that can be added to liquids to make them thicker. It’s ideal to use for making body butters, balms, lotions, and other DIY creations. It will be utilized for making the glow balm in this particular kit.
Also included were 3 recipe cards with full step-by-step instructions for each product, along with tips & shade guides.
Alright, time to create a custom eyeshadow & blush palette!
First up, eyeshadows! — Each one was created by first measuring out the correct amount of your chosen mica/iron oxide powder colors. For the shade above (“Sparkling Emerald”), I needed to combine 1/4 tsp green chromium oxide with 1/2 tsp lime green mica powder.
Once I blended the colors (using the back of a small spoon), I added the required 1 tsp of DIY mineral makeup base and blended with the color mixture. Once fully incorporated, I then poured in 1/8 tsp of almond oil.
After a LOT of back-of-spoon-smooshing, the mixture eventually took on the consistency of actual eyeshadow. (Though still a bit clumpy. 😉 ) I carefully scooped the finished product into one of the tins and smoothed it down as best as I could. — I LOVE the pretty green shade it created!
The second shade I attempted was “Forest”, a darker/cooler green than the first.
In hindsight, I really should have blended the third one better… It’s supposed to be “Mountain”, a pale cool gray. I think it could have used more black iron oxide and a whole lot more “spoon smooshing”.
My fourth and final eyeshadow shade was something that I came up with on my own. I really wanted a darkish brown color, so I used brown iron oxide, yellow gold mica powder, and I think a bit of black iron oxide. Although I could have blended this one more thoroughly as well, I really like how the shade turned out!
Next up was the blush! I didn’t take many photos, but it was basically the same process as the eyeshadow. However, I decided not to add the almond oil and just leave it as a loose powder.
The final product was “Moisturizing Glow Balm” — which can be applied to your face & lips to moisturize and create glowing skin. I began by placing the specified amount of mango butter, cetyl alcohol, and almond oil into a microwave-safe container (a silicone baking cup worked great!).
I placed the cup in the microwave and heated in short intervals until the ingredients were fully liquified. I then added the essential oil and pearl mica powder.
Unfortunately, the mixture started to harden in seconds, making it difficult to properly pour into the waiting tin. I did my best to try to even it out, but as you can see it’s not the most photogenic looking balm. 😉
Once all of the products were created, it was time to add them to my new makeup compact! — I took these photos in the evening with mixed lighting, so I assure you they look a LOT better in person. (Crumbly either way though. Oops!)
Here’s a look at the palette with all of the lids in place. Since the bottom of the palette is magnetic, you don’t have to worry about them falling out. 🙂
Simply Earth’s new & improved “DIY Blush & Eyeshadow Palette Kit” made it so easy to create my own customized makeup using eco-friendly, non-toxic ingredients. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Although I should have blended them a little better, I’m still looking forward to wearing my pretty new eyeshadow collection! — If you’d like to purchase your own “DIY Blush & Eyeshadow Palette Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
