I was recently sent a DIY Loofah Melt & Pour Soap Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Simply Earth Melt & Pour Glycerin Soap
The main ingredient in this soap kit was — not surprisingly — soap! Included was a large 2-pound brick of glycerin soap that would be melted down to create 12 small loofah “bars”.
12 Cavity Round Silicone Soap Mold Tray
The 12-cavity tray above will be used to hold the shape of your loofah/soap mixture until hardened. It’s made of silicone, allowing for easy removal and the ability to be reused for additional DIYs.
Loofah Sponges
A package of 12 small loofah sponges would serve as the “exfoliating” portion of the soaps.
Simply Earth Blood Orange Essential Oil
The kit contained two 100% pure essential oils! First up was Blood Orange, which features an aroma that’s less sweet than traditional oranges with a bit of a more herbal/floral scent. It has plenty of health benefits including promoting rest, boosting immunity, uplifting your mood, cleansing your skin, supporting joint function, and more.
Simply Earth Ylang Ylang Essential Oil
Known as the “flower of flowers”, Ylang Ylang was given its name for its sweet, floral aroma. It’s mainly grown in tropical areas throughout Asia and has been used for years to support healthy hair, skin, and overall wellness. Common uses include promoting youthful skin, soothing the scalp, bringing about uplifting/energizing feelings, thickening hair, and more.
Perfumer’s Alcohol
This bottle of 190 proof ethyl alcohol is a perfect high proof alcohol base for solubilizing essential oils in perfumes, room sprays, and more. It will be sprayed on the soap mixture to help eliminate unwanted oxygen bubbles.
Spray Nozzle
A nozzle was provided to turn the perfumer’s alcohol bottle above into an easier to use spray bottle. (Just requires snipping the tube to fit.)
Simply Earth Mica Powder in Tiger Orange, Fuchsia, and Pearl
Three different shades of mica powder were included to easily give color to the bar soaps naturally. The powder contains absolutely nothing synthetic and is perfectly safe for skin.
Soap Wraps
A package of 12 paper “soap wraps” were provided to hold/wrap each of the finished soap bars.
Label Stickers
A set of pre-printed label stickers will add a final, professional-looking touch!
“Lovely Loofah Melt & Pour Soap” Recipe Card
The all-important recipe card listed all of the materials needed, along with complete step-by-step instructions (more shown on back, not pictured.)
Alright, time to make some soap!
To begin, I first needed to place all 12 loofah sponges into each of the round molds. (Some were a little too large, but were easily trimmed to fit.)
Next, I cut the straw of the spray nozzle to the size of the perfumer’s alcohol bottle and used it to spray the mold/sponges.
I then unpackaged the block of soap and divided it into 3 equal sections. The kit only required two-thirds, so I rewrapped the remaining 1/3 of the block for future soap-making.
As instructed on the recipe card, I proceeded to chop the soap into small (approx. 1-inch) cubes.
The cubes were then divided into two separate microwave-safe containers and heated until fully melted.
Essential oils were then added to each container, followed by the colored mica powder. (The measuring cup got fuchsia, while the storage container got tiger orange.)
My daughter helped “pour” (we used spoons) the mixtures into the waiting molds. We put both colors into each one, hoping for a swirl effect but I think it all kind of blended together. (The soap hardened quickly, so we had to move fast!)
After setting the tray in the fridge to speed up the hardening process even more, the soaps were ready to pop out of the molds!
They turned out SO nice!! — The scent was amazing too! So citrus-y and sweet. 🙂
The final step was to wrap each “bar” with the included paper wrappers…
…and seal them with a label sticker.
How cute!!
Simply Earth’s new “DIY Loofah Melt & Pour Soap Kit” was one of my favorite kits to date! The little soaps were super easy to make and turned out absolutely perfect. I love that they even included supplies to package the finished products. — Such a nice presentation and perfect for gifting. 😀 As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. — If you’d like to purchase your own “DIY Loofah Melt & Pour Soap Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
