I was recently sent a DIY Menthol Shower Steamers Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Citric Acid (x4)
Citric acid is used to create carbon dioxide bubbles (aka the “fizz”) — a key ingredient for DIY shower steamers. Four 1-ounce packets were provided.
12 Cavity Round Silicone Mold Tray
The 12-cavity tray above will be used to hold the shape of your shower steamers until hardened. It’s made of silicone, allowing for easy removal and the ability to be reused for additional DIYs.
Almond Oil
Often used as a carrier oil, almond oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. When added to your shower steamer recipe, it helps to hold all of the ingredients together and make it more solid/”packable”.
Soap Wraps
A package of 12 paper “soap wraps” was provided to hold/wrap each of the finished steamers.
A separate, smaller box held the remaining materials/ingredients.
Simply Earth Himalayan Cedarwood Essential Oil
Cedarwood (Himalayan) uses can be traced as far as biblical times when it was used for construction materials in temples, homes, boats, and torches. — Its’ woody scent actually provides a natural resistance to decay and bugs (yay!). These days, it’s often used for promoting rest, soothing & cleansing the skin, supporting respiration, and more.
Simply Earth Cardamom Essential Oil
Cardamom essential oil has a “sweet & woody” aroma and offers a variety of health benefits. It’s particularly helpful in promoting stomach wellness, supporting respiration, energizing, and supporting joint function.
Rose Red & Yellow Gold Mica Powder
Two packets of mica powder were included to give a pretty hue to your steamers — “Rose Red” and “Yellow Gold”. The powder contains absolutely nothing synthetic and perfectly safe for skin.
Menthol Crystals
Derived from the peppermint plant, menthol has a natural cooling and soothing effect. These crystals will need to be melted down and blended with a carrier oil in order to utilize them in the shower steamers.
Label Stickers
A set of pre-printed label stickers will add a final, professional-looking touch to the completed products. — Making them perfect for gifting!
“Deep Breath Shower Steamers” Recipe Card
The all-important recipe card listed all of the materials needed, along with complete step-by-step instructions (more shown on back, not pictured.)
Okay, time to make some shower steamers!
The first step was to take the menthol crystals and carefully crush them while still in the packet.
I used a rolling pin, which worked great for the task at hand…
…Those crystals were pulverized! 😉
Next, I placed the (powdered) menthol crystals into a medium-sized bowl along with the required amount of baking soda, citric acid, and cornstarch.
In a smaller bowl, I blended together the essential oils, almond oil, and water.
I then poured the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients and mixed well until it reached a “wet sand” consistency.
I knew it was ready to go when I was able to pack it together like a snowball. 🙂
I then carefully pressed the mixture into each of the 12 molds. — There was plenty to fill each one right to the top.
After allowing them to set for roughly 24 hours, it was time to remove the steamers from the mold.
The silicone material made it super easy to pop them out without any damage.
I’m happy to report that every single one held its shape. Success!
Next, it was time to decorate. For the “paint”, I just mixed each of the mica powders with a little almond oil and used a small kid’s paintbrush to apply to the steamers.
I started with the red “paint”…
…Then added some gold.
They turned out so pretty! <3
The final step was to wrap each steamer with the included soap wrappers and slap on a label. 😀
Simply Earth’s new “DIY Menthol Shower Steamers Kit” was one of my favorite projects to date! They made it SO easy to create my own natural shower steamers using eco-friendly, non-toxic ingredients. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out and will be happily using them all winter long. 😀 If you’d like to purchase your own “DIY Menthol Shower Steamers Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
