A peek in the box!
Reusable Deodorant Tubes (6)
The kit included six plastic, reusable deodorant containers/tubes in which to hold the finished products. Each one featured a small Simply Earth logo printed near the bottom.
Magnesium Hydroxide
Magnesium hydroxide is a gentle, odor-fighting mineral that’s perfect for DIY deodorants, dry shampoos, and skincare. It helps neutralize odor-causing bacteria without blocking your pores, while also helping you feeling fresh without harsh chemicals (like aluminum).
Beeswax
Beeswax has humectant, emollient, and occlusive properties that help nourish your skin. It’s the perfect ingredient for making candles and natural skin care products like deodorant.
Shea Butter
Shea butter — a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea tree — is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. It works as a 100% natural emollient to soften and hydrate the skin.
Zinc Oxide
Zinc Oxide is a natural, non-toxic mineral that helps to reduce odor and helps minimize the growth of new bacteria. It’s a great ingredient to include in DIY body powder, sunscreen, and (of course) deodorant.
Almond Oil
Often used as a carrier oil, almond oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. When added to your deodorant recipe, it helps to hold all of the ingredients together and make it more solid/”packable”.
A separate, smaller box held the remaining materials/ingredients.
Simply Earth BO Be Gone Essential Oil Blend
“BO Be Gone” was designed to help you eliminate body odors the natural way (no harsh chemicals required!). It contains a fresh & floral combination of lavender, orange, patchouli, ylang ylang and sandalwood essential oils.
Simply Earth Lemongrass Essential Oil
Lemongrass has a very clean, citrusy/earthy aroma that I absolutely LOVE. Lemongrass essential oil is great for cleaning & deodorizing, but is also an effective insect deterrent, hair strengthener, and digestion tamer.
Label Stickers
Six pre-printed label stickers were provided for applying to your completed deodorant containers/tubes.
“Stay Fresh Mineral Deodorant” Recipe Card
The all-important recipe card listed all of the materials needed, along with complete step-by-step instructions (shown on back, not pictured.)
Okay, time to make some deodorant!
The first step was to gather all of the empty deodorant tubes and insure that the inner platforms were sitting all the way to the bottom (by twisting the dial).
Next, I was to add the specified amounts of beeswax, shea butter, and almond oil to a microwave-safe bowl.
After placing the first bowl in the microwave to melt the ingredients, I used a separate bowl to combine the magnesium hydroxide, zinc oxide, and cornstarch.
Once fully liquified, I poured the first bowl of ingredients into the new bowl.
After mixing well, I then added the required amount of essential oils and mixed once more.
I placed the empty tubes onto a sheet of wax paper to pick up any spills, then began pouring the “batter” into each one.
Somehow I only had enough to fully fill 4 of the containers, so I’m not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I should have melted it a second time? It did seem rather thick/chunky.
After letting them sit overnight to harden, it was time to add the labels.
Such an easy way to make them look a little more fancy. 😉
Although I only ended up with 4 tubes, I still enjoyed the process of crafting my own homemade deodorant. 🙂 — Not only do they smell amazing, but my super picky daughters have even asked if they could each have one. That’s a big win for me!
Simply Earth’s new “DIY Natural Deodorant Kit” made it super easy to create my own natural deodorant sticks using eco-friendly, non-toxic ingredients. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I absolutely LOVE how they turned out and the scent is amazing.
