I was recently sent a DIY Natural Face Cleansers Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Round Soap Mold (x4)
In order to make all of the cleansing bars at once, the box included four round silicone soap molds. Each mold is 3 inches in diameter and can hold up to 1.5 ounces of product.
SLSA Powder
SLSA (Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate) powder is a mild yet potent foaming agent that will help give your cleansing bars a soft, luxurious feel without irritation. It can be used for a variety of skin care products including bath bombs, shower gels, and of course cleansing bars.
SCI Powder
SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) powder is similar to SLSA in that it also helps to create a beautiful foam in your DIY body care recipes. It’s derived from coconuts and is biodegradable, making it a great eco-friendly surfactant that’s safe for sensitive skin.
Mango Butter
The little container above contains 100% mango butter. It’s a lightweight, non-greasy butter that’s ideal for making DIY body care products that are easily absorbed and feel great on your skin.
Geogard ECT
Geogard ECT is an eco-friendly preservative that is made up of safe, natural ingredients. It’s used to extend the shelf life of your DIY skincare products.
Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl alcohol is an oil soluble substance that can be added to liquids to make them thicker. It’s ideal to use for making body butters, balms, lotions, and other DIY creations. Four packets were provided.
Foam Boost
Another product to encourage foam formation, Foam Boost (Cocamidopropyl Betaine) elevates the sensory experience of cleansing with a rich, foamy texture. It’s naturally derived from coconut oil, making it mild and suitable for a variety of DIY skin care products.
Frankincense Essential Oil
Frankincense has been used throughout history, with its most notable appearances in the Bible and in ancient Egypt. Back in the day, it was mostly used for incense, treating wounds, and easing arthritis. These days we often use this spicy/woody oil to help with promoting immunity, aiding in digestion, supporting joint function, improving sleep, and more.
Rose Geranium Essential Oil
Despite sharing almost all of the same qualities with Geranium, Rose Geranium is the type most often preferred for its scent. It’s said to emit the strongest, most superior notes of rose — a scent that can have an uplifting effect on the mood.
Soap Wrap Paper & Labels
Four paper wraps, as well as four label stickers were provided to neatly package your completed cleansing bars.
“Fancy Face Cleansing Bar” Recipe Card
The all-important recipe card listed all of the materials needed, along with complete step-by-step instructions (more shown on back, not pictured.)
Okay, time to make some face cleansing bars!
The first step was to scoop the mango butter into a microwave-friendly bowl…
…along with the cetyl alcohol and heating at 30-second intervals until fully melted together.
Melting complete!
Next, I added both the SCI powder and SLSA powder to the liquid and mixed until fully combined.
(The instructions recommended wearing a face mask, as the powders can irritate your nose/throat when airborne. I initially skipped this step, but quickly found myself coughing and opted to put one on. I also moved the bowl near a window that I opened to help lessen the irritation. Once fully mixed, I was able to remove the mask.)
After achieving the cottage cheese-like consistency shown above, I added the specified drops of Geogard ECT and essential oil.
Once again, I mixed until everything was fully combined.
Next, I carefully scooped the mixture into the four awaiting silicone molds and let them set overnight.
The next day, I was able to easily pop each of the bars out of their molds.
I’m not sure if the bars were supposed to be so lumpy, but they certainly smelled nice and sudsed up really well!
The final step was to wrap each bar in the provided paper squares and seal with a label sticker.
All done and ready to use (or gift!). 🙂
Simply Earth’s new “DIY Natural Face Cleansers Kit” allowed me to make four gentle & super sudsy face cleanser bars. I did tweak the recipe a bit by using their “Clear Skin” essential oil blend in place of the Rose Geranium provided (not a fan of floral scents), but I absolutely love how they turned out. I also love that they included supplies to package the finished products. — Such a nice presentation and perfect for gifting. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. — If you’d like to purchase your own “DIY Natural Face Cleansers Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
