A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed February’s theme: “Soap”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
February’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Lovely Night Roll-On
- Helping Hands Foaming Soap
- Healing Hands Solid Lotion Bar
- Unicorn Foaming Soap
- Sweet Lemon Oatmeal Soap
- Heart Balloons Diffuser Blend
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.
February’s oils included:
- Lemongrass
- Amyris
- Unicorn
- Energy
Simply Earth Lemongrass Essential Oil
Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise™ that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.
Lemongrass is one of my very favorite scents so I was excited to see it included in February’s box! It has a very clean, citrusy/earthy aroma that I absolutely LOVE. Lemongrass essential oil is great for cleaning & deodorizing, but is also an effective insect deterrent, hair strengthener, and digestion tamer.
Simply Earth Amyris Essential Oil
Amyris wood was once used for torches and candles as its thick oil makes it highly combustible with a long-lasting flame & a nice warm, vanilla-like aroma. These days most people use the oil for its aromatherapy benefits which include promoting immunity, cleaning, soothing the skin, centering, promoting rest, and more.
Simply Earth Unicorn Essential Oil Blend
February’s box contained two oil blends! First up was Unicorn — a blend inspired by Simply Earth’s new kid’s product line that features “Aroma the Unicorn”. Designed to help your child (or yourself!) to calm down and handle big emotions, the oil contains an uplifting combination of pink grapefruit, sweet orange, lemon, and jasmine essential oils. It’s my new favorite blend!
Simply Earth Energy Essential Oil Blend
This month’s second blend was “Energy”, an uplifting combination of eucalyptus, lemon, and peppermint essential oils. It was designed to give you a natural burst of energy minus the caffeine or sugar. A perfect blend to help boost your mood, clear your mind, support your immune system and of course get that much-needed energy boost.
Glycerin Melt & Pour Soap
A package of melt & pour glycerin soap was provided to use in making “Sweet Lemon Oatmeal Soap”. The package contained six 1-inch cubes, all of which will be utilized in the recipe.
Simply Earth Round Soap Mold
A round green silicone soap mold was also provided to aid in the making of the “Sweet Lemon Oatmeal Soap”. It can also be reused to make your own bath melts, candles, and more.
Foaming Hand Soap Tablets
These little tablets allow you to make your own DIY foaming hand soap by (re)using a dispenser that you already have, producing less waste for the planet. To use, simply drop one tablet into empty soap dispenser, add distilled water, allow to fully dissolve, and you’re done! You can also give it a custom scent by using the essential oil(s) of your choice.
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
Sweet Lemon Oatmeal Soap
Supplies needed: Glycerin Soap Base, Amyris Essential Oil, Lemongrass Essential Oil, Soap Mold, Oatmeal, and (optional) Mica Powder.
The first step was to place the whole container of glycerin soap base into a microwave-safe bowl and heat until fully melted.
Once liquified, I added a pinch of both green & yellow mica powder to give it a greenish tint. (As you can see in the photo above, the soap began to solidify a bit so I stuck it back in the microwave for a few seconds.)
Next, I added a few shakes (I didn’t measure) of oatmeal and the specified essential oils.
Lastly, I poured the mixture into my soap mold for it to set. (The bubbles could have been prevented with a spritz of rubbing alcohol, but I really don’t mind them. 😉 )
After letting it fully set/harden for a few hours, I popped it out of the mold and it was ready to be used! — In hindsight, I probably should have chosen a more appealing color combination (especially with the oatmeal), but it got the job done. 😉
Unicorn Foaming Soap
Supplies needed: 1 Hand Soap Tablet, Unicorn Essential Oil Blend, Foaming Hand Soap Container, and Distilled Water.
My daughters had just run out of hand soap in their bathroom, so I was happy to refill it with this batch of DIY “Unicorn” scented wash. The first step was to open the soap tablet and place it into the empty container.
Next came the essential oil blend, followed by water. — I didn’t have distilled, so I had to settle for plain ol’ filtered.
Once filled, I set the bottle aside to let the tablet fully dissolve (20-30 minutes).
Once dissolved, I gave the bottle a good shake and it was ready to use. 🙂
Heart Balloons Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Unicorn Essential Oil Blend, Amyris Essential Oil, Energy Essential Oil Blend, and Lemongrass Essential Oil.
The easiest of all the recipes, it simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the sweet aroma fill the room.
Heart Balloons Master Blend
Every monthly diffuser recipe also comes with instructions for making a “master blend” that gives you a pre-made supply to use as you wish.
Supplies needed: Unicorn Essential Oil Blend, Amyris Essential Oil, Energy Essential Oil Blend, Lemongrass Essential Oil, and a 5 mL bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
All you have to do is pour the specified amount of essential oil into the bottle…
…add the provided stickers — and you’re done!
Lovely Night Roll-On Blend
Supplies needed: Amyris Essential Oil, Unicorn Essential Oil Blend, Energy Essential Oil Blend, Fractionated Coconut Oil*, and a 10mL Roll-On Bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
Another easy recipe that simply involved placing a specified amount of essential oils drops into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with coconut oil.
Then just replace the cap and carefully position the sticker/label & it’s ready to use!
