I was recently sent a Fizz & Flow DIY Bath Bomb Kit for review, so let’s check it out!
Everything was shipped in a medium-sized brown box with the Simply Earth logo on top & the name of the kit on the side.
A peek in the box!
Natrasorb Bath Powder
Natrasorb Bath Powder is made with modified tapioca starch which allows it to absorb and carry large amounts of carrier oils, emulsifying wax, and essential oils. When it comes in contact with water, it immediately dissolves — releasing the oils and spreading them out in the water. It also keeps bath salts from clumping and improves the hardness of bath bombs.
Simply Earth Mica Powder in Yellow Gold, Indigo Blue, and Rose Red
Three different shades of mica powder were included to easily add fun colors to your bath bombs. The powder contains absolutely nothing synthetic and is perfectly safe for skin.
Citric Acid
Citric acid is used to create carbon dioxide bubbles (aka the “fizz”) — a key ingredient for your DIY bath bombs.
Bath Bomb Mold
A 2-piece metal bath bomb mold was provided for forming perfect spheres.
Castile Soap
Castile soap is derived from 100% natural ingredients and can be used for a variety of DIY products. I like to use it to make homemade foaming hand soap, but obviously we’ll be using it here for adding cleansing power to the bath bombs.
SCI Powder
SCI (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) powder helps to create a beautiful foam in your DIY body care recipes (like bath bombs!). It’s derived from coconuts and is biodegradable, making it a great eco-friendly surfactant that’s safe for sensitive skin.
Almond Oil
Often used as a carrier oil, almond oil is lightweight and easily absorbed into the skin. When added to your bath bomb recipes, it helps to hold all of the ingredients together and make it more solid/”packable”.
Simply Earth Lava Essential Oil Blend
“Lava” is an essential oil blend that boasts a sweet & fruity scent created to “uplift and energize”. It contains a fragrant combination of grapefruit, blood orange, ho wood, and sandalwood essential oils.
Simply Earth Sweet Dreams Essential Oil Blend
“Sweet Dreams” — another blend — consists of marjoram, lavender, cedarwood, chamomile, and frankincense. It’s specially formulated to promote calm feelings and emotions, resulting in a more restful sleep.
“Lava Flow” & “Moonlit Dream” Fizzy Bath Bomb Recipe Cards
The all-important recipe cards listed all of the materials needed for each type of bath bomb, along with complete step-by-step instructions (more shown on back, not pictured.)
Okay, time to make some bath bombs!
I started with the “Moonlit Dream” variation. First, I needed to combine all of the dry ingredients together — baking soda, cornstarch, Natrasorb, SCI powder, and citrus acid.
Next, I added a tsp of blue indigo mica powder and stirred until fully incorporated.
It looks gray-ish in the photo above, but I promise it was light blue. 😉
Next, I combined all of the liquid ingredients into a separate bowl — castile soap, almond oil, and Sweet Dreams essential oil blend.
The liquid was poured into the dry ingredients and stirred until until it felt like damp sand & held its shape when squeezed.
Once the consistency was achieved, I packed both of the molds with the sandy mixture.
After adding 1 teaspoon of extra “filling” to each side, I pressed the two halves together and…
…failed to make them stick together. — So I made bath bomb “halves” instead. 😉
The “Lava Flow” bath bomb variation was started similarly, with the dry ingredients combined first…
…and liquids added after.
After stirring and achieving “wet sand” consistency, the mixture was to be divided into two separate bowls. Rose Red mica powder was added to the first, while Yellow Gold was added to the second.
Once the pink & yellow shades were achieved, I added varying amounts of each one to the metal mold.
As with the other batch, I pressed the mixture into the mold tightly and released it onto wax paper.
Once all of the “halves” were done, I blended some of the mica powder with almond oil to make a “paint” for brushing some designs onto the blue ones.
Not the most creative designs, but I love how they all turned out! 😀 Now they just needed to stay put for 24-48 hours as they fully dried/hardened.
Simply Earth’s new “Fizz & Flow DIY Bath Bomb Kit” made it easy to create my own customized bath bombs (halves!) using eco-friendly, non-toxic ingredients. As with all of Simply Earth’s DIY kits, the instructions were clear and easy to follow. I admittedly wasn’t feeling patient enough to get the two halves to stick, but I’m sure I could have made it work with a little more effort. 😉 Either way, I’m happy with how they turned out. (And they smell amazing!!) 😀 If you’d like to purchase your own “Fizz & Flow DIY Bath Bomb Kit“, make sure to use coupon code “WENDYROSE10” at checkout to save 10%!
