A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed January’s theme: “Personal Care Box”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
January’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Fresh Natural Deodorant
- Morning Glory Body Powder
- Armpit Detox Mask
- Winter Contentment Roll-On
- New Year New Me Diffuser Blend
- Joy Solid Perfume
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.
This month’s oils included:
- Clary Sage
- Citrus Burst
- Dark Patchouli
- Pine
These were all chosen for the various benefits they can provide when used in natural personal care products.
Simply Earth Clary Sage Essential Oil
Clary Sage can help alleviate symptoms of upset stomach & other digestive disorders, menstrual cramps, menopause-related issues, anxiety, stress, and many other conditions. This particular batch of oil was sourced in France using the leaves and flowers of the clary sage plant. Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise™ that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.
Simply Earth Citrus Burst Essential Oil Blend
The only blend of January’s box, “Citrus Burst” contains an energizing combination of lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, and bergamot essential oil. I absolutely LOVE citrus scents and this uplifting blend is perfection. This oil is ideal for making all natural household/beauty products such as bath bombs, multi-purpose cleaning sprays, air fresheners, soap, and more.
Simply Earth Dark Patchouli Essential Oil
Okay I’ll admit it… I used to think patchouli was something only “hippies” used. (Sorry!) Thankfully I’ve since seen the light (and opened my mind a bit 😉 ) and now realize that it’s totally universal. Patchouli essential oil has natural deodorizing properties that make it great for combating offensive odors. It’s also great for repelling insects, which I GREATLY appreciate. You don’t need to be a fan of tie dye to embrace the beauty of patchouli. 😉
Simply Earth Pine Essential Oil
With our twinkle lights un-strung and our Christmas tree tucked away for next year, I’m absolutely feeling the loss that comes with the end of the holidays. So needless to say, I was excited to see that my holiday/winter vibes can live on with my new bottle of PINE essential oil. Yay! Not only does it smell like the holidays, but it’s also great for naturally neutralizing (those not so awesome) odors. 😉
Cardboard Deodorant Tube
One of the recipes in this month’s box is for a homemade natural deodorant. The cardboard tube above was provided as a dispenser for said deodorant and can be reused (refilled) multiple times.
Kaolin Clay
Kaolin clay is a useful ingredient in homemade skincare, as it naturally absorbs excess oils. Three of this month’s recipes call for kaolin clay and the baggie above contains more than enough for all of them.
Zinc Oxide
Another helpful ingredient to have handy is zinc oxide. It’s required in two of January’s recipes and is used for its soothing and deodorizing properties.
Body Powder Puff
The final item was a small powder puff to be used for easily applying the “Morning Glory Body Powder” recipe included in the box.
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
New Year New Me Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Pine Essential Oil, Patchouli Essential Oil, Clary Sage Essential Oil, and Citrus Burst Essential Oil Blend.
This “recipe” was incredibly easy and simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add 1 drop of both Pine & Patchouli Essential Oils, and 2 drops of Clary Sage and Citrus Burst. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the magic happen. 🙂
Morning Glory Body Powder
Supplies needed: Kaolin clay, cornstarch, zinc oxide, almond oil*, Patchouli Essential Oil, Citrus Burst Essential Oil Blend, Clary Sage Essential Oil, and body powder puff. *Included in Big Bonus Box.
First, I needed to mix all of the dry ingredients together in one jar/bowl, then mix the almond oil and essential oils together in a second jar/bowl.
Both sets of ingredients were then mixed together and added to a small jar that I had on hand. — I decided to double the recipe and it fit perfectly into my little jar. 🙂
To my delight, the powder puff also fit right on top — as if it were custom made for the container. Yay! I also placed the provided sticker on the lid so I wouldn’t forget what was inside.
Winter Contentment Roll-On
Supplies needed: Citrus Burst Essential Oil Blend, Clary Sage Essential Oil, fractionated coconut oil*, and 10 mL roll-on container*. *Included in Big Bonus Box.
Another simple recipe, this one involved placing a specified amount of essential oils drops into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with fractionated coconut oil. Once full, the coordinating stickers could be placed on the outside.
So easy!
Speaking of stickers… I didn’t realize it before, but there are small round stickers with every box that you can attach to the top of each essential oil bottle. — This makes it SO much easier to quickly identify all of your oils if you keep them stored in a drawer like I do. 🙂
Now for a quick look at the FREE Big Bonus Box!
As mentioned earlier, all new subscribers will receive a FREE Big Bonus Box with following helpful supplies:
- 6 glass rollerball bottles

The January 2022 “Personal Care” themed Simply Earth box included a great collection of essential oils and recipes to help create your own natural personal care products. As always, the recipes were incredibly easy to follow and took just minutes to complete. I’ve been avoiding body powders of all kinds due to the talc, so I’m excited to try my new cornstarch version! 😀 — Remember, for a limited time new subscribers can get a $40 gift card AND a FREE Bonus Box ($50 value!) with coupon code “WENDYROSEFREE“!
