A peek inside!
An info card (printed on the back of one of the recipe cards) revealed December’s theme: “Beauty”. It listed this month’s featured oils, along with any included extras. It also provided a few safety tips for each oil/blend.
A note from Katie — recipe formulator & certified aromatherapist — revealed a bit more about this month’s theme.
December’s recipes provided clear instructions for whipping up the following:
- Glow Serum
- Pink Lemonade Eye Shadow
- Currant Wine Lip Crayon
- Dusty Rose Blush
- Monthlies Roll On
- Enchanted Diffuser Blend
A sheet of pre-printed stickers was also included for labeling your creations.
December’s oils included:
- Sage
- Atlas Cedarwood
- Marjoram
- Good Vibes
Simply Earth Sage Essential Oil
Every Simply Earth oil is printed with a Simply Pure Promise™ that ensures that the product has been quality tested and is 100% pure. Ingredients are also clearly printed on every label.
Sage has been used for thousands of years to improve cognition and protect against cognitive decline. It can also improve scalp health, ease painful muscles, soothe head discomfort, and provide support to the immune system. It has a calming, earthy/floral scent.
Simply Earth Atlas Cedarwood Essential Oil
Cedarwood oil was a staple for ancient Egyptians, who used it for almost everything from cosmetics and perfumery to their mummification process. Its woody scent provides a natural resistance to decay and bugs. These days, it’s often used to help reduce the appearance of blemishes, support respiration, soothe the scalp, support joint function, and more.
Simply Earth Marjoram Essential Oil
Marjoram essential oil has a variety of uses including aiding in digestion, promoting hormone balance, supporting heart wellness, relaxing muscles, soothing headaches, and supporting women’s wellness. It has a slightly sweet, uplifting aroma.
Simply Earth Good Vibes Essential Oil Blend
The only blend of December’s box, “Good Vibes” features a fruity & floral combination of lavender, lemon, ho wood, geranium, and clary sage essential oils. It was specifically crafted to help support women’s hormonal health and general wellness.
DIY Mineral Makeup Base
This natural mineral powder is used as a base in a few of this month’s makeup recipes. It contains a simple blend of magnesium stearate, zinc oxide, silica, titanium oxide, and mica.
Fuchsia Mica Powder
A packet of 100% natural fuchsia-colored mica powder was included to give a pretty hue to your DIY eyeshadows, blushes, and more. The powder contains absolutely nothing synthetic and was ethically sourced here in the United States. (Also, the info card states that the warning on the label was a misprint and that it IS safe for using on the lips.)
Red Iron Oxide
A packet of red iron oxide was also provided for achieving bolder, richer colors. — But be sure to use sparingly, as a little goes a long way. (You’ll see. 😉 )
Cosmetic Tins
Two small tins were provided to store the end result of two of this month’s recipes — “Pink Lemonade Eye Shadow” and “Dusty Rose Blush”. So cute!
Here are the recipes that I’ve made so far:
Enchanted Diffuser Blend
Supplies needed: Marjoram Essential Oil, Good Vibes Essential Oil blend, and Cedarwood Essential Oil.
The easiest of all the recipes, it simply required me to fill my diffuser with water, then add the specified amount drops of each of the essential oils above. Once added, I switched on the diffuser and let the calming aroma fill the room.
Monthlies Roll-On
Supplies needed: Good Vibes Essential Oil Blend, Marjoram Essential Oil, fractionated coconut oil*, and a 10mL Roll-On Bottle*.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
Another easy recipe that simply involved placing a specified amount of essential oils drops into the roll-on bottle and filling the rest up with fractionated coconut oil.
Then just replace the cap and carefully position the sticker/label & it’s ready to use!
Pink Lemonade Eye Shadow
Supplies needed: Mineral makeup base, fuchsia mica powder, fractionated coconut oil*, and a small cosmetic tin.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
The first step was to place 1 tsp of the mineral makeup base to a small bowl.
Next, I added a “pinch” of fuchsia mica powder. — I forgot to snap a photo of this step, but 1/4 tsp of coconut oil was also added and blended together with the powders.
Once properly incorporated, I carefully scooped the mixture into one of the cosmetic tins and spread it out as best as I could using the back of the spoon. It’s not perfect, but it’s ready to use!
Dusty Rose Blush
Supplies needed: Mineral makeup base, red iron oxide, fuchsia mica powder, fractionated coconut oil*, and a small cosmetic tin.
*Included in Big Bonus Box.
As with the eye shadow above, I also began by adding the mineral makeup base, fuchsia mica powder, and a tiny bit of red iron oxide to a small bowl.
I then added the coconut oil and blended until smooth(ish). — I’m not sure exactly how dark this was supposed to be, but I have a feeling I added a little too much red iron oxide. Oops! 😉
I then carefully scooped the mixture into the second tin and smoothed it out as best as I could.
Here’s a look at how they show up on my (very pale) skin. The swatch on the left is the eye shadow, which I probably could have mixed a bit more… The middle is the blush applied normally and the swatch on the right is the blush applied more lightly.
