Tique Box is a new-ish (started over the summer) sub box that features products native to its region. Which region, you say? — Portland, OR! 😀
Now, I don’t know a TON about Portland, but I do know that they have an abundance of vegan-friendly eateries… That alone is enough to make me wanna visit. (Hey, I like me some food.) The only thing I don’t like about Portland (though it’s totally not their fault) is that godawful Portlandia show. I really, really wanted to like it, but… sigh… it just wasn’t meant to be. I found it to be very much like SNL, in that a lot of their recurring characters are boring/annoying/make me want to stab them with a fork. And holy crap on a cracker… Where am I going with this??
Back to the box! — Tique Box promises to “deliver Portland to your doorstep” in the form of locally made treats, crafts, home goods, and more. Boxes are $24.95/month. Right now they have two season-inspired boxes available for purchase: The Fall Box and the Holiday Box. I received the Fall Box for review. Let’s have a look-see, shall we?
This was what I saw upon opening the box: Portland! Though, being as I’ve never actually been there, this could totally be any other city and I wouldn’t know any better. Buuuut I’m guessing Tique Box wouldn’t be turds like that, so we’ll stick with Portland. 😉
Stash Blueberry Iced Green Tea Powder – I’ve gotten Stash Tea products before and never noticed that they were from Portland. (Though I’m not sure why you’d bother looking to see where your tea hailed from, but I digress…) This is a powdered green tea that you mix into cold water for a nice, refreshing drink. My husband tried some as soon as he saw it and said it didn’t have as much flavor as he was hoping. I tried a sip and could definitely taste the green tea. I kinda liked that it wasn’t overly strong though. Different strokes…
Vance Family Pineapple Coconut Soy Candle – Yay! I love getting candles in sub boxes. (Especially healthier, environmentally friendly ones like this.) Vance Family candles are made with non-GMO renewable soy and scented with natural essential oils. The materials used are all American made and eco-friendly. Oh, and if all of that wasn’t awesome enough, Vance Family also donates 10% of all their sales to those in need. You go, Vance!
PaperSmith Embossed Notecard – If the info sheet didn’t tell me that this was an embossed hop(?), I would have told you it was a pinecone. I also didn’t know that “hops” could be singular. Clearly, I know nothing about beer. Or hops… Or pinecones. I do know that this is a handmade notecard crafted by a lifelong Portlander who has been around printing since he was a child. I also know that I’ll be needing to procure a silver/white pen if I ever want to utilize this bad boy.
Portland Beard Company Beard Oil – I had to laugh when I pulled this out of the box. Finally, something perfect for my husband! He hates my sub box addiction, so it was nice to get something he couldn’t scoff at. This is an oil that’s designed to make your (well, maybe not your) beard healthy and strong. It’s made with argan oil to tame beard frizzies without feeling greasy. I only wish it was full size and not just a sample, cos we’ve got a whole lotta beard up in this house…
Yep, that’s my husband buried under all of that beard-y goodness. 😉
Sellwood Coffee Co. Coffee Beans – I could smell these packets as soon as I opened my box. Coffeeeee!! I was excited to try it until I realized that they were whole coffee beans. Poop. This is the second time in the last week or so that I’ve gotten whole beans in a box. Thing is, I’m a Keurig kinda gal (see: lazy). Ah well. I’m sure I can find someone who’ll like some nice Nicaraguan coffee beans.
Saucy Beast Habango Sauce – “Habango” sauce is a blend of smoked habanero peppers, mango, and various spices. It can be added to anything your lil’ heart desires, and is handmade right in Portland, Oregon.
Portland Button Works Buttons – Two little Portland-themed buttons. Yep. Not much else I can say about these. Just two lil’ buttons/pins/badges. Kinda irrelevant if you don’t live in Portland. Wouldn’t make much sense to wear these in Buffalo, ya know? Wait — Is irony still cool? Hmmm… 😉
So that’s the “Fall” Tique Box. It was a fun selection of items, but I would have liked to see one or two more products. Or just more full-sized ones. Oh, and while the candle smells great, it would have been awesome to get a more “autumn-y” scent to fit the theme of the box. That said, I’m interested to see what the “Holiday Box” will offer. I’m a sucker for anything holiday-related! 🙂
