From the Lab is a monthly beauty box that sends you luxury brand beauty products at a drastically lower cost — months before they’re released to the US market.
From the Lab gets its products from some of the same beauty labs that luxury brands develop their lines in. However, they’re able to offer them at a lower cost since they don’t do extensive marketing campaigns or worry about pretty packaging. This also allows them to get the products to you as early as 18 months before they hit the US market.
All of the products offered by From the Lab are held to strict European safety standards and are fully tested and approved before being accepted by them. All of the formulas are also cruelty/animal-free (yay!) and contain only clean ingredients. Each shipment will contain a 30-day supply of 1 to 3 skin care, hair care, or cosmetic items. Boxes are $29.95/month (includes shipping!), or less with longer commitments.
Alright, let’s see what’s in July’s box, shall we?
First look. Everything was wrapped in tissue paper and I was surprised by how full the box was. It didn’t have an info card so I was a little confused. After looking up reviews on other blogs, I found out that this was a special “Summer Essentials” one-year anniversary box. Neat! (No idea why I didn’t get an info card though… That would have been quite helpful, considering the lack of info on the actual products. Lack of, as in no info at all. Thankfully, I was able to look everything up in their shop (included the estimated retail values).
AM/PM Cleanser No. 586 – According to their site, this is a “ground-breaking formula” that cleanses, tones, and removes makeup in one simple step. No rinsing is required and it leaves your skin clean, your pores tightened and your face happy & moisturized. (Estimated Retail Value: $45+)
Face Mask No. 598 – This mask contains a variety of plant-based ingredients, each with their own healing properties. Heart of the Sea Algae, rich in omega fatty acids, helps moisturize the skin and protect against free radicals… While centuries old Armoise helps to sooth and soften. The mask is safe for all skin types and I’m looking forward to trying it out. (Estimated Retail Value: $62.50)
Hair Mask No. 718 – I’ve never used a hair mask, but I’m willing to give this a go. It’s supposed to “thicken limp hair, add moisture to color-treated hair, and make thick hair more manageable”. It contains stem cells from a “rare apple” known for its longevity. That sounds ancient & mysterious and totally makes me think this stuff is going to be freakin’ incredible. We shall see… (Estimated Retail Value: $75+)
Face Primer No. 327 – This is an anti-aging, pore-reducing, color-correcting cream that helps to keep your makeup looking fresh for up to 24 hours. I don’t use anything on my face except powder, under eye concealer, and blush, so I passed this along to my sister. However, after reading all the positive reviews on their site, I’m kinda thinking I should have kept it. (Estimated Retail Value: $32.50)
Hydrating Lip Primer No. 629 – This lip primer is designed to, well, prime the lips before applying lipstick or gloss. It helps them to hold up longer and reduces the chance of feathering. Since I don’t wear anything on my lips aside from lip balm, I passed this along to my sister as well. She happily accepted it. 🙂 (Estimated Retail Value: $? — This was apparently a bonus item sent to new subscribers)
I was super impressed with my first From the Lab box. The retail value of the products this month is roughly $225! Crazy!
I wish I would have gotten the info card (or that they included directions on the actual products), but other than that, I thought this was a great box for anyone who likes to experiment with new products before they hit the market. I also love that everything is cruelty-free and made with clean ingredients. 🙂
