April 2016 Birchbox time! — I just realized I haven’t reviewed this box since January. Whoops!
If you’re new to Birchbox, it’s basically a monthly subscription box that sends you 4-5 grooming, beauty, and lifestyle samples for just $10/month. When you sign up you take a style quiz and they send you products that best fit your profile. Both well-known and up-and-coming brands are included, all in generously sized multi-use samples.
Their rewards program is easily one of the best around. You earn points for reviewing your samples, referring friends, and purchasing full sized products. Each review is worth 10 points and referrals are 50 points. Every 100 points gives you $10 to spend in the Birchbox shop. The points rack up fast and there’s no limit to how many you can earn. The shop is full of great products including candles, cosmetics, home accessories, tea, chocolate, and lots more goodies. Since each box contains at least 5 samples, you’ll already be racking up 50 points after you review them. So it’s sort of like paying $5 per box instead of $10, since you get that $5 in store credit. Nice!
For a limited time, new subscribers can 50 free points (worth $5 in their shop) with coupon code SUBSCRIBENOW50.
Okay, let the April 2016 Birchbox unboxing begin!
The box this month was a collaboration with Rifle Paper Co. and featured a really pretty floral design.
A peek inside! April’s box was all about celebrating the Spring season and ingredient-conscious products.
As always, the info card listed each item inside the box, as well as a brief description and retail prices for the full-sized versions.
Beaver Professional Repair Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner (~$7) – I’m super picky about the shampoo and conditioners I use, so I’m not sure if I’ll be trying these. I do like that they’re decent sized samples and not cheap foil packets though!
The Beauty Crop PBJ Smoothie Stick in Guava Nice Day ($14.95) – FULL SIZE! This creamy lip crayon is infused with almond butter & goji berries which are rich in Vitamin E, antioxidants and beta-carotene. The formula works to moisturize and protect the lips while providing a smooth, even application. I don’t typically wear lip products, but I might give this a try if it’s not too bold.
Acure Organics Pore Minimizing Facial Scrub (~$3.25) – Facial cleansers/scrubs are another product that I’m super picky about. However, I could really use some pore minimizing and I’m pretty sure all of Acure’s products are vegan-friendly. This scrub features Moroccan red clay to help draw out impurities and improve the skin’s texture.
RMS Beauty The Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes (~$1.50) – I believe these were my sample choice for April. Not the most exciting product, but I’ll use ’em. They’re made with antibacterial coconut oil that helps melt away even the most stubborn makeup.
Overall, I was satisfied with my April Birchbox. There weren’t any items that I was totally excited about, but I think I’ll at least try every one of them. For me, that’s a win. Oh, and the box itself was super pretty this month! All totaled, the retail value was roughly $27. Not crazy high, but definitely worth the $10 monthly subscription cost!
