My Cake Decorating is a monthly subscription for… Any guesses? — Yep, cake decorating! Every month you’ll receive a new kit consisting of 3 step-by-step guides, decorating tools, tips, recipes, and more to make beautiful cakes, cookies, and cupcakes. Bonus gifts are also included in the first, second, fourth and sixth month kits.
For a limited time, My Cake Decorating is offering their Introductory Kit (what I’ll be reviewing) for FREE. Just pay $1.99 shipping. After that, each kit is $14.97 (plus $4.99 shipping).
Alright, let’s see what was included in the Intro kit, shall we?
The box (shipped inside a larger box) was wrapped in tissue paper and sealed with a sticker.
Cupcake Stand – The first item I discovered was this cardboard cupcake stand. It was too large to fit inside the smaller box, so it was tucked underneath it, in the larger box (which is probably the reason for the larger box). I always borrow my niece’s cupcake stand for parties, so I’m happy to have my own now. Of course, I wish it was made of something a little more durable/long-lasting than cardboard, but if I’m careful I should be able to get quite a few uses out of it. Plus, I really like the pretty pink gingham print.
Introducing Cake Decorating – This pamphlet gives you an overview of what to expect in the coming months. It lists the types of techniques you’ll learn, tools you’ll receive, and projects you’ll discover.
These pages let you know what you’ll find in your monthly guides and how to get the most out of them.
Here, they show you some of the tools and free gifts you’ll receive in the upcoming months.
Butterfly Cookie Cutters – The introductory guide includes a couple projects that require the use of these cute butterfly cookie cutters. These cutters can be used for fondant shapes, kid-friendly sandwiches, fruit leather cut-outs, and of course, cookies.
FREE GIFT: Icing and Cookie Press Gun Set – The bonus gift for the first month is this icing/cookie press gun. I’ve always wanted to try to make cookies using a press, and now I can! It’s cool that you can use it for icing too. I think the one my mom had back in the day only did the cookies. This’ll be fun to play around with for sure. (I just wish it came with instructions, cos I’m pretty clueless as to how it works. Ah well, I can always consult Mr. Google.)
Guide #1 – This is the first guide of the series and features icing & piping techniques, a butterfly cupcake topper tutorial, cookie cutter basics, kid’s cake ideas, and more. (22 pages)
Icing guide and tips for beginners.
Cookie cutter guide and tips for decorating butterfly cookies using the cutters included in this month’s box.
A couple ideas for fun kid’s cakes.
They also included a little “spoiler” card of what to expect in the second month’s box.
My Cake Decorating is a great subscription for anyone looking to improve their decorating skills and make creations that are totally Pinterest-worthy. The full-color guides are easy to read/follow and the tools seem practical and not too daunting for beginners. Oh, and free gifts are always good!
Remember, you can get your first kit for FREE (just pay $1.99 shipping). Can’t beat that!
